About this listen

They have to stop meeting like this.

After a disastrous meet-cute turns into repeated meetings, a flighty free-spirit and a stodgy rule-follower come to realize that one they can’t get away from … is the one they can’t live without.

Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Austin just wants what any modern commitment-phobic woman in New York wants: a no-strings-attached hook-up, steamy enough to brag about over mimosas the next morning. What she doesn’t want is her dating app’s latest suggestion: preppy, corporate Thomas Decker. So, obviously, she rejects the guy without a second thought. There’s just one snag: he’s sitting next to her, so he witnessed her do it. And now he’s calling her out.

After the initial embarrassment, Mac is determined not to let it bother her, but fate has other plans—and Thomas isn’t going anywhere. First, he pops up as her new boss. And then he reappears as her best friend’s soon-to-be brother-in-law.

As the not-so meet cutes add up, Mac is sure that uptight Thomas is the last man that a free-spirit like her should want. Only the more time she spends with him, the more Mac realizes that the man she can’t get away from has become the same one that she wants to keep close …

Wonderful!

It's been a long time since I've listened to a Lauren Layne bookbut this was well worth the wait. I loved the opposites attraction. I hope I don't have to wait long for another book. Kelsey Navarro was a perfect narrator.

Another unexpected enjoyable book by this author. Sweet and still steamy and some humor mixed in.

perfect ending

A perfect fall romance. Grab your latte and a cozy blanket... this is the one!

I loved the characters and while I died of secondhand embarrassment a few times, it's worth pushing through. The ending is so wonderful :')

Okay!!

I liked it, but many times I was screaming inside for her having a stupid mother and for her to be so closed off to any other way than her mother. Other than that it was a cute story - a good candidate for a good movie.

A true romcom with an amazing solo narration!

•Opposites attract
•Witty banter
•Boss/ Employee

From the moment they met, Mackenzie "Mac" Austin and Thomas Decker couldn't seem to get away from each other. It started with an awful first impression at a bar, then an awkward encounter at work, and now, fate has brought them together yet again at Mac’s best friend's engagement party. It's almost as though fate has conspired to ensure they remain entwined in a cosmic dance, amplified by the fact that Thomas is none other than the groom-to-be's brother.

Now, Mac, a free-spirited soul, finds herself partnered with Thomas, a serious and focused individual, to organize a joint bachelor-bachelorette party. They couldn't be more different, and their opposing personalities clash at every turn. But despite the constant conflict, there's an undeniable attraction between them that neither can ignore.

Thoughts:

The chemistry between Mac and Thomas was absolutely fascinating. Their dynamic gradually shifted, giving room for a new perspective on their lives.

Mac's relationship with her mother was far from healthy, portraying a toxic bond that made it easy to understand her aversion to commitment. Thomas, on the other hand, was refreshingly transparent about his desires and expectations. He was an embodiment of a true gentleman with a hidden naughty streak, which I personally loved!

In essence, this particular book by Lauren Layne served as a reminder of why I adore her romance books. It delivered a heartwarming story that perfectly captured the essence of a romantic comedy. If you enjoy opposites attracting and playful banter, then this is the romance book for you!

Let's me take a moment to appreciate Kelsey Navarro's outstanding solo narration skills. Kelsey possesses a remarkable talent for creating a variety of voices. The narration flowed flawlessly, perfectly enhancing the storytelling experience.

Sweet and Complete

Sometimes you meet the right one and you just have to have the courage to hold on. Our heroine struggles with this, but her man is smart enough to recognize this about her and hold on. Almost the whole way through, at some point though she has to woman up and learn to hold on too.

You Again

Lauren Layne wrote another exquisite story of love! The banter grabs you from the get-go and never lets go until it's over. I wanted. I never wanted the story to end.

Refreshing

I loved this! The whole aversion to commitment got tiresome but it was the storyline, and one that I can personally relate too. I do wish more authors gave the male POV as well as the woman’s, at least we got a little male POV at the end. Over all I give 5 stars and am hungry for another book from this author.

Frustrating female character

It was very frustrating that Mac wouldn’t let go of her hang ups in light of Thomas’s dedicated actions. I felt she needed to grovel a LOT more (and Thomas deserved it, too).
The narrator had an inflection to her narration that was very distracting - once I noticed it, I couldn't not notice it. Virtually every sentence consisted of her emphasizing and drawing out the last syllable - maybe she was going for a wry tone or something, but it got old fast.
