About this listen

Sometimes you’ve got to run away to find yourself…

Twenty-four-year-old Lucy needs a fresh start. Forever single, frustrated with her studies and dreaming of writing a novel she can’t start, she gives up everything to run a little library in the leafy village of Tilley Moreton. Lucy loves reading books almost as much as she loves fixing other people’s problems, so starting a book club seems like the perfect opportunity to do both. As she meets her new members, it’s clear she’s going to have her work cut out for her.

Handsome but silent Callum is the biggest puzzle of them all... But Lucy’s meddling begins to cause more problems than it solves, and she starts to think she should have kept out of everyone’s business. No one is more surprised than Lucy when Callum steps in to help. Could there be more to him than people think? Callum secretly dreams of escaping his family and starting one of his own.

Is Lucy crazy to think she could be the one? When he goes into business with her brother, is it the sign she’s been looking for? Or is he using her to get ahead?

As inspiration for her novel finally begins to flow, will Lucy follow her head, or her heart to find the happy ending she’s been longing for?

What a beautifully done story!!

What a beautifully done story!!

I initially picked up Lucy's Little Village Book Club in the search for lighthearted Summer listening. However, I hadn't expected the depth and emotion in this novel and its subplots; I was delightfully surprised.

The characters in this world were realistic and flawed; developing beautifully throughout the course of the novel. However, out of all the characters, I adored Oscar the most. As someone who is also a birth parent, I connected with his character and could really empathise with his grief.

Furthermore, as this was an Audible book, I should add that Alison Campbell did an excellent job narrating this book - she was pleasant to listen to and brought the Emma Davies' work to life.

Overall, Lucy’s Little Village Book Club is a beautifully executed novel about friendship, loss, love, and achieving dreams. I would be lying if I said that I didn't tear up at least once while listening to this audiobook. I would definitely recommend adding this book to your reading list.

Ok read with couple of twists

Easy listen, though tbh not my favourite by this author.
Narration was ok, have listened to several books read by this narrator. She has good speaking voice & does different accents well. However the female voices were really high pitched and the male voices all whispers. Very soporific, had to keep rewinding the book to catch up on the story as I'd zoned out.

An easy listen, delightful with the accent

Enjoyed the story, and it kept my interest. I enjoy this author, and always love a good ending, albeit a bit predictable, perhaps.
