About this listen

What lies on the dark side of the moon could change the course of humanity forever.

When a Chinese rover discovers an alien technology on the dark side of the moon, it is up to Richard "Rock" Crandon and his NASA team of scientists and engineers to devise a way to return before the Chinese and Russians.

Forced to deal with bureaucratic oversight and a complex team of personalities, Rock Crandon pushes his team to their limits.

With pressure mounting, the world is pushed closer to conflict and war as the NASA team finds itself seriously behind in the newly initiated space race. The future of mankind, its ideological and technological advances are at stake, as the world's super powers race to discover what lies on the dark side of the moon.

Who will get there first, and at what cost?

Captivating

Looking forward for the second audio recording! Great performance by Mark, worth getting for that alone!

Damn thing got me hooked.

This was an easy and enjoyable listen. Good production quality, and a unfolding story with excellent characterization. Some of the politics inside the space race seem a bit cliche and one dimensional, but it also made it flow in a way that you might expect. Overall an excellent listen.

Not great

Sometimes I play audiobooks in the background as I do chores or even pay bills when it doesn’t matter if I pay attention to the story. For this book I think I would’ve had to turn it off as some of it is 🙄, but I did like the ending. It’s too bad 95% of the book was on details, and he didn’t flush out the ending.

Kinda meh.

It's not bad...but not quite good enough for me to think that spending credits on getting the rest of the series is worth it. But if they're ever included as something we can borrow instead of buy, I'll definitely listen!

Satisfying entertainment

Although it is slow on action which is a bit sparse, the writing is appealing and the way it described the operation of three countries government security and defense operations rings true. The oral performance was very good with clear differences between characters. It is a very good light entertainment. I plan on finishing this three volume series.

a little too geopolitical

great story but I just read a Ben Bova book and I'm a little tried of the narrow geopolitical thing. Ben can't stop.

Amazing concept...execution?

First, what a great, original concept. I did enjoy the read, however I really felt like there was so much more to be done with this story, given the concept and current relevance. It's short, coming in at around 10 hours. Given the nature of this concept I am guessing there was a lot more to be done here. The narrator does a good job, especially with the female characters. There were times when I forgot it was a male reading. If you're looking for a short story I recommend this. I wish a more Clancy or Weir treatment were given to such an interesting story. It almost seemed like the author was trying to wrap this up as quickly as possible. Could have been one of the great ones with modern science and political intrigue.
