About this listen

When Winnie Winters is whisked away to a strange new world, her life takes on a new adventurous path that she never imagined possible. Once there, Winnie meets a young Triblood by the name of Lunen, and together they begin an exciting journey filled with the unexpected. Aboard the airship Freewind with Lunen, Winnie is introduced to Lunen's friends, Liana and Lieto; the captain and first mate; as well as the twins, Migs and Zeg, who are the ship's doctor and engineer. Fighting side by side with Lunen, Winnie will soon learn more about this new world full of dangerous beasts, otherworldly monsters, and, even more dangerous, the greater evils of men.

Girl power and space pirates.

This was a fun, light read. It has a kind of Princess Lea/Han Solo sparring couple at its center... they are engaging and their relationship is developed in an interesting way. I think the female protagonist, Winnie, is a great character and I was engaged in her self discovery. I really enjoyed the vocal performance. There was a great range to the characters and the narrator really brought all the contrasting quirky personalities to life. He has a great sense of humor and I thought some of the funnier moments in the book were very well brought out. I particularly liked the old woman who ran the forge - she was hilarious. If you liked the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy, I think this would appeal to you. Lunen is a wry, sarcastic anti-hero - I envisioned Chris Pratt in my mind the whole time.

It had promise

What disappointed you about Lunen: Triblood?

The story had promise but it became a bit overdone...in the first 4 chapters. He revealed a lot in the first 4 chapters that could have been spread out more.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator kept throwing inflections at the beginning of sentences that it didn't need. He sounded like a poor imitation of Captain Kirk. He would switch voices for the same character making it confusing as to who he was at that time.
