About this listen

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Molly McAdams delivers the first captivating, stand-alone novel in her Redemption series spin-off - the Rebel series....

I’m not the kind of girl you forget.
I wish I was.
I wish I was normal.
That I could blend into a crowd. Have a future with the man I’ve loved my entire life....

Maxon James understands me in a way others can’t. For as long as I can remember, he’s vowed that one day he would claim my wild, rebel heart. God knows I wanted him to try. I wanted the life he promised me in his lyrics.

But his assurances couldn’t change the past, and the infamous mafia blood in my veins guarantees my heart can’t be claimed.

Somewhere along the way, I slipped. I let myself believe we could have it all. Now a dark, menacing shadow hovers between us, mocking us for daring to hope for a normal future.

And it’s come to collect on a blood oath. My name’s Elizabeth Borello - Libby for short. Don’t worry about forgetting it.... He hasn’t.

dedicated

I listened to this on Audible. The narration was extremely good full of emotion! The love that the main characters have and the dedication of the people around them to suport and protect and the ability to accept and not judge. The end was great.

Good Read

First book I've listened to/read of Molly McAdams. Loved it! Didn't want to put it down. Haven't read the Redemption Series but I am definitely going to. A lot of plot twists and turns in this story.

Music, Love, and the Mob

I was hoping to love this book and I enjoyed for the most as I was surrounded by the characters I grew to enjoy reading about in the Redemption series. I didn't quite warm to Libby since her emotions were always all over the place and her relationship with Maxon always seemed to have some complication. I just wanted them to be together, but she kept secrets to keep him safe from the life she grew up in. It did add some suspense and a bit of a twist at the end I did not see coming.

For the most part I did enjoy this book and felt the love they both had for the other. They tried their best to get the happy ending they deserved.

I found the narration to be fine. I didn't quite love it, but didn't take away too much from the story.

True love <3

Rock Star and Mafia Princess! need I say more?! The love these two have for each other is undeniable and its touching how far a person will go to protect the ones they love. I think the communication with everyone in this story sucked but that's part of the suspense I suppose... I love Jason Clarke he is amazing! Fran is new to me, she did great! I think the raspy in her voice was perfect for the type of badass she is. Overall it was a fantastic read and worth the credit!

MY OBSESSION AS THE REBEL & THE ROCKER PUSH N PULL

What a great addition/spin off from the Redemption series by this gifted talented author whose books have captured my heart and seized my soul. This time it’s the story of Libby an ex-mob princess who’d given her heart when they were just teenagers to her first, her only, her true love Maxon James the boy who understood her, unconditionally loved her and patiently waited for over a decade for the ‘right’ time for them. Because Maxon would go on to form a band, become a famous musician and be away for long periods on tours.. but he would beg Libby to come with him, plead with her to stop pushing him away and relish the times she’d pull him in.. but never quite all the way.

However, this time when Maxon came back their relationship was on an emotional rollercoaster with heavenly highs, devastating lows and unbelievable twists that tied him up in knots. But what Maxon didn’t know was that Libby was being stalked, she was betrothed to a Mafia Boss, she was scared and she was going to do the unthinkable to save him.

What a riveting unstoppable listen.. it was sweet, tension filled, suspenseful, sometimes sexy, romantic and frustrating too as Libby pushes and pulls, slowly uncovers and quickly covers up secrets.. and battles her emotions as she breaks both their hearts. I’m seriously in awe of Molly McAdams writing skills as she slowly revealed the mystery of what had been concealed for over a decade and to incorporate, entwine and spin it within a beautiful heartbreaking love story of the one and only kind.

Worth a credit? Abso-freaking-lutely.. I loved loved loved it. The buildup was deliciously torturous, the feels were non stop, the love was palpable and the great dual POV narration brought the magic that made this listen unforgettable.

Eye-roll inducing...

STORY – I read all the books in the Redemption series, love them all and I love Libby in Firefly but in this book, I was pretty disappointed. I did not expect such childish actions from her (especially from someone who went through a lot and lived a life of danger). I wish I could believe that she is a rebel. She really isnt, she is just petulant and it’s worse to be petulant at 31. As much as I try to understand her reasons, her decisions are stupefying most times. A lot of their issues could be solve with proper communication especially if they’re in a LDR.
Maxson was decent though and puts up with Libby (I feel sorry for him tbh) but love is love and he truly loves her.
Even the supporting characters were all overdramatic and ridiculous.
Overall, this book is a teenage soap opera.

NARRATION – This is my first time listening to Fran Jewels’s narration and she is pretty great. Jason Clarke is one of my favorite and his performance was great as well.

She can do better

So much of this “conflict” could have been solved if Libby weren’t acting so incredibly stupid. The Redemption series was great - this story is pure frustration.

I'm in.

I once asked Molly McAdams which books of hers I should read and this is the book she recommended.

So, nice choice.

I wasn't sure what I expected when I hit play on this audio. I was in it for the long haul, I had a 2300 mile trip ahead of me and I was determined to knock out some of my ridiculous TBR.

And Lyric was already sitting there on my audiobook shelf, downloaded and ready to go, just waiting for me to hit play.

So I did.

Now is a good time to tell you I didn't read the blurb. Just took Molly at her word and dove right in. There's nothing like blind trust to really get you in the mood for a book (although why I trust her is beyond me, the last time I read one of her books she left me gutted on the floor).

So, Lyric.

Wow. I like the detail, the characters, the love, the devotion, the...Wait, what??! The mafia?! Is this a mafia book?

Oh, yes, yes it is. And the twists and turns and lies and deceit that happen in this book left my jaw on the floor.

She got me. Why I am so surprised is beyond me. I should know to not trust Molly with my reading choices. I should have known better.
But here we are.

I'm moving on to book two because this book was fantastic.

Like I said, if you want the swooniest romance mixed with a bit of mafia blood--okay, a lot of mafia blood--then this is the book for you.

Just know that Maxon James is going to win your heart. You're gonna wish you were every lyric he had ever written too.

And because I'm me, I want the spin-off story of Gabe. This ten years of waiting through his eyes. Because I bet that is twisted.
