About this listen

Macbeth is among the most powerful of Shakespeare's tragedies, a dark but fascinating glimpse into the soul of evil. Set in medieval Scotland in an atmosphere of civil unrest and mutual suspicion, Macbeth probes the intellectual, as well as the emotional consequences of unbridled ambition and the cold-blooded murder it engenders. In the title character and his wife and accomplice, Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare conceived as complex and eloquent a pair of villains as have ever been created in the English language.©1964, 1996 HarperCollinsPublishers Classics Shakespeare

Good, But…

This is a production of a magnificent story that is bogged down by lousy audio. It’s often difficult to understand what characters are saying, especially the Weird Sisters. If you’ve not read MacBeth before I highly recommend that you sit and read the story while you listen to it. I don’t know if there is a better production of MacBeth here on Audible, but you’re probably better off checking to see if there is; I would buy this one if it is the only production of MacBeth on Audible.

If you’ve never seen Sir Patrick Stewart as MacBeth in the BBC’s production you need to find it and watch it immediately. No, I mean right this very second, right after you’ve finished reading this sentence.
