Publisher's summary

Maggie Walker has never called Wirra Station home. Orphaned as a child, she spent more time at boarding school and then working in the city than she ever spent on the edge of the outback. But when her great aunt dies, Maggie inherits everything and reluctantly returns to tidy the place up before selling.

Ambitious cowboy-next-door Max O’Connor has the means and the desire to buy Wirra Station outright and return it to its former glory. But first, he wants elusive Maggie Walker to know what she’s giving up. He challenges her to live at Wirra Station for three months - with him as farm manager. Just one season - and if she still doesn’t love the place, he’ll gladly pay up and she can be cashed-up and careless, with no ties to anything or anyone.

Three months. Two hearts. One summer. Roll on.

More Than A Neighbor’s Wager

When Maggie Walker inherits a country property from her aunt, she plans to repair Wirra Stage to make it more appealing to sell. Max O’Connor who is her next door neighbor posses a wager to have Maggie stay on the property for three months prior to selling while he promises to manage the farm during that time. If after three months , this city gal does not find a place for Wirra Station in her heart, then Max will assume the property outright allowing Maggie to return to the city and her former life. That being said, Wirra Station is not the only thing that works it’s way into her heart...

The story’s dialogue flowed well between characters making it easy to discern each. The narrator used proper voice inflection based upon the emotion and occurrences in the book at that given time. She employs natural pauses that contribute to the story’s description and details. The dialogue presented was conducted in such a fashion that her voice made it possible to produce a visual image. Her performance enhanced the story and created the atmosphere for this audiobook to be enjoyed and appreciated.

I received a free copy of this audiobook however, the review is given honestly and voluntarily

My Thoughts on Maggie's Run

This was my first Kelly Hunter book, but I was very impressed by it. Max and Maggie were solid, very well developed characters. And they were likable. The kind of characters you root for and hope for only good things to happen for them from now on. I couldn't even decide which I liked more. That's how great these characters were.

This was, initially anyway, an enemies to lovers type story. Even if only on one side. I won't tell in this review who, but I hope every one reads this one to find out. Or listen like I did.

Maggie had some baggage to work through and there were secrets from her past to contend with as well. Max had always been her savior and even when she didn't always appreciate it.

I really enjoyed this narrator. Particularly on the female parts, but even on the male ones too. And the accent was awesome. I need more books with accents in my audio library clearly.

This was a really good story overall and one I would definitely recommend.

I truly loved this story!

The storyline that Amy Soakes created in the work is a great one! I’m a sucker for a good love story and this is a good one. There were a few spots at the beginning where the editing may need to be reviewed as there were repeats in the narration. It does NOT deter from the story! It was really sweet.

Amy Soakes is a new narrator for me and it took me a bit to get used to her accent and intonation. By the end it was better, I got used to it.

Sometimes going home is the hardest thing to do.

Sometimes going home isn't all that it's cracked up to be. This is even more so for Maggie Walker, who does not consider Wirra Station her home...even though this is where she grew up after her parents were killed in a car accident. Orphaned at a young age and sent to live with a resentful great aunt, Maggie has a difficult time considering the sheep farm 'home'. Besides, the place is in dire need of some TLC...and cash for that TLC is not available. Maggie decides to sell! Max O'Connor is Maggie's childhood friend, the boy who literally saved her life by pulling her from the accident wreckage. However, Maggie still harbors resentment towards Max, believing that he should have also saved her parents. When Maggie approaches Max about buying Wirra Station from her, he believes that she's making a mistake by selling her heritage. Max convinces Maggie to stay at Wirra for 3 months, with him as the farm manager, before she makes the final decision. Over the summer, Maggie's outlook slowly changes towards both the property and its manager. Is there an HEA for Maggie and Max?

cute story

Maggie returns to the town she grew up in to collect her inheritance and run into her old friend max who saved her from a car wreck long ago and she righybaay recondnizes the chemistry that exist between them. Maggie wants to sell the land she's inherited because being back there brings back bad memories and she doesn't feel like its the life for her until max gets her to rethink her choice and she begins to slowly fall in love with him and the town again, she starts to change her mind.Maggie still suffers from memories from her past which brings bad nightmares and she learns to work through her issues with max by her side and max accepts Maggie for everything she is even though she feels she's not worthy of him. it's a cute and fun quick read and I found it to be an enjoyable hea romance.

A difficult start that improved

The story starts in the middle of the action, so it was hard to catch on to what was happening. Try to understand the narrator did not help. I finally did catch up and enjoyed it. But the narrator has trouble with the secondary voices.

I enjoyed this book.
Maggie's relationship with Max goes back to childhood.
The romance is sweet and there isn't too much drama.
All in all just a great listen.

It's a brave new world for a woman on her own.

It's a brave new world for a woman on her own. For Maggie Whitaker the child within is working to catch up to the woman she's become. Life has not always been kind. A child who needed love ended up orphaned, lonely and scared. The woman that emerges is one on a mission to create her own happy ending. Love was not part of that equation until her past ends up calling her home. Maggie's Run is a romanticized adventure of broken hearts, shattered dreams and new beginnings played out against the backdrop of the Australian outback. With a sense of wonder and a hint of hope Hunter and Soakes put a little love in our hearts.
