About this listen

A charming coming-of-age story of a girl between six and 12 with a rich imagination and inquisitive nature who brings us back to our time when we were girls and boys of this age. From the author of Anne of Green Gables, an astute, resourceful, astute, ironic, and kind writer.

While this is a typical charming LM Montgomery story, the reader is absolutely the worst I’ve ever heard. He can’t pronounce basic words and puts odd pauses in everywhere, especially on compound words, which he generally turns into two. There’s a monotonous, distracting piano loop that plays in the background the entire time. This is definitely not worth the money. Skip it!

Skip this! It is terrible!

The story is a nice one- not many highs or lows. Not full of suspense, just easy reading for a stressful life. The performance is good. I like a simple, plain reading of a story. I don't want a lot of voice changes for the characters.
The trouble with this book is this- I listened to the first couple chapters and the music in the background was very distracting. The same piano piece over and over. I just want to hear the story!

Background music is distracting

It pains me to say it, because I love LM Montgomery so very much, but this performance is abysmal. Clearly not a professional. Unfortunately it's the only recording I could find of this book. Also the only recording I've heard with music in the background.

Worst performance I've ever heard

I understand that no reader cares that PEI accent says “ahnt” not ant. But there is zero excuse for saying tryst as try-ast and crepe fabric is crape, not crep. If a reader doesn’t know a word, they should at least look it up!

Readers should also read a passage through before recording it, so they can read it fluently. I’m not sure I can continue this one, it’s so badly done.

Frustrating

I applaud the effort. The narrator is probably an amazing grandpa. The distracting piano loop really bothered me. I don’t understand that artistic decision. And the stumbling over words gave it an amateur feel, which is fine if it really is your grandpa reading it. Just not if you’re using a credit for it. I barely know what I spent the last ten hours listening to.

Worst narration I’ve ever heard

Narrators voice, lack of inflection, pronunciation errors, and overall core storytelling/narration ability. The fact that the individual reading the story is a male, does not impact my judgment of narration quality and ability. I just wish that audiobook would have another version of this wonderful book by a different and better narrator

The narration was good, The reader adds an interesting quality when you get used to the background music.
