Publisher's summary

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Magna Carta, then pay attention...

The Magna Carta is celebrated as one of the most important documents in human history. It is the main source of constitutional law around the world, promising people liberties and protection from the arbitrary power of the government.

However, it is also a set of promises extorted in bad faith from an unwilling king, and these promises dealt with the problems of the 13th-century aristocracy. Among the ordinary problems of fees, customs, and land law, greater ideas found their way into the document, revolutionary ideas that would change the world.

However, in 1215, they were sparse, mentioned here and there in the form of high ideals more than in the form of a law.

Some parts of the Magna Carta are still quoted, such as clauses that deal with justice before peers, freedom from unlawful imprisonment, freedom of the church, and so on. However, in medieval times, these clauses did not have the same meaning as they do today. The Magna Carta showed itself to be a flexible document with ideas that could be bent and transformed to suit the needs of the new times.

In Magna Carta: A Captivating Guide to the History of the Great Charter and its Influence on Medieval England and the Rest of the World, you will discover topics such as:

  • King John
  • The path to Runnymede
  • The Magna Carta
  • The failure of the Magna Carta

  • Henry III and the Magna Carta

Bought as a present

I love this audiobook. Great examples, well written and, of course, subjective. History brought to life in a well informed and interesting way.

Absolute fantastic

If I see his name I understand the book is going to be available. I don't necessarily agree with everything he says but I ever enjoy the journey!

Thanks

I don’t know how Magna Carta looks today but it’s still interesting to see a group of people declaring that freedom is born of God and not a man and when God is excluded from society freedom soon follows.

Very interesting

I want every home to have this audiobook. It is greatly interesting, making history come alive. This audiobook explained that I knew almost nothing about the Magna Charta; such a historic event and report should be common information to freedom-loving people. This is a great book for growing people, and for oldsters like me!

A good summary of what Magna Carta was all about.

If you are looking for a first, not too successful accurate presentation, this audiobook is just right.

Brilliant audiobook

This is a guide to the world of the document we all think we know, but which is more legend than reality. Although short, it includes the years leading up to the Magna Carta, the context of its creation, and it's subsequent place in our history. It does all this very well; it's simply written and created, and is very clear about what Magna Carta is not, which is probably more powerful than what it actually is!
