About this listen

What is your plan for the end of the world as we know it? How will you protect the people you love? What will you leave to them when you are gone?

The good news is this is not the first time the world has ended. What's more, men were made for times like these. And the men of the past — the good ones, anyway — have left us a plan to follow.

They built houses to last — houses that could weather a storm. This book contains their plan.

I wish I had been taught this wisdom by example and by precept 30 years ago. Now at 60, I am painfully aware of closing in on that moment of life when I must one day bequeath to my children and grandchildren the remains of all my striving.

Still, I find that the words of Tennyson can be both instructive and consoling to men who like me have begun to feel the chill of winter's frost:

Old age hath yet his honor and his toil.
Death closes all; but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with gods.

I could not stop listening to this book. In listening to this I was strongly encouraged to rethink the way I think about leading my household. God's reality for us is way different than the worlds. Very practical for everyday Christians looking to deepen the meaning of their lives and how to better glorify God with the gifts he gives. This is a call to action and way different than self help books. This book will challenge your reality, watch out!

Excellent good for thought. It's not a plan on itself, but it can help a person plan and build a household.

I am Joshua's wife not Joshua. We both enjoyed C. R. Wiley's book "The House Hold and the Cosmos" so when my husband started listening to "Man of the House" I became curious. I am not the man of the house (obviously) but I am homeschooling two future men who Lord willing will be. In this small book C. R. Wiley captures in a poetic yet straightforward way the blessing all members of a household experience when a man acknowledges his responsibilities and by God's Grace embraces them joyfully.

A book every man should own.
