About this listen

Mansfield Park is the third novel by Jane Austen, written at Chawton Cottage between February 1811 and 1813. It was published in May 1814 by Thomas Egerton, who published Jane Austen's two earlier novels, Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. When the novel reached a second edition in 1816, its publication was taken over by John Murray, who also published its successor, Emma. Mansfield Park is a Pygmalion morality epic.

I’ve been listening to quite a few stories narrated by Karen Savage, more so on libra-box than audible. She always does a good job. Mansfield Park in my opinion the best Jane Austen novel. There are a number of metaphors and interesting themes ( especially of the class structure of the regency period) that makes Mansfield Park more complex than a 2 dimensional love story. I highly recommend listening to the story and reading an analysis of the story. There is a lot of symbolism in the book that goes over a modern reader’s head, and knowledge of the symbolism makes the story that much richer.

Great voice acting

Whilst I loved Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park is tedious and there are few characters to like. As the ending is skimmed over there is no satisfying conclusion.
If Karen Savage would slow down she would be a great narrator. Her hurried speech was frustrating.

Don't bother
