About this listen
What would you do to possess an object of unlimited power?
When occult enthusiast Sir Giles Tumulty comes into possession of a stone known as the Crown of Solomon, he is amazed at its startling powers. It can replicate itself infinitely, and can transport its holder to any place or time.
Sir Giles and his nephew Reginald, an opportunistic businessman, conspire to exploit their new treasure. Seeking to enlist honest Lord Arglay in their plans, Arglay quickly realizes what is at stake. Unlimited power should not fall into the wrong hands...and it already had....
Many Dimensions is one of Charles Williams’ most accessible and exciting novels. Along with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Williams was a member of the Inklings, a society of writers in Oxford, England who changed the world with their mythopoetic vision.

In the tiny English village of Fardles, a practitioner of black magic has located the Holy Graal in the sacristy of the local Anglican church. Intent on possessing it so as to amplify his own nefarious powers, he tries to trick its guardian into donating it. When that fails, he resorts to theft. When Lester Furnival and her friend Evelyn die in a plane crash, they find themselves walking through a ghostly, surreal, twilight London. The scandalous magician Simon Leclerc has sacrificed his own child to gain control over this world - and the next. As Lester and Evelyn discover what has happened to them, they are pulled in different directions - one toward isolation and despair, and the other toward a sacrificial self-giving that, to her great surprise, saves even her. Story
The Kalevala provides a compelling insight into the myths and folklore of Finland. Compiled by Elias Lönnrot in the 19th century, this impressive volume follows a tradition of oral storytelling that goes back some 2000 years, and it is often compared to such epic poems as Homer's Odyssey. However, The Kalevala has little in common with the culture of its Nordic neighbors: It is primarily poetic, it is mythical rather than historic, and its heroes solve their problems with magic more often than violence.

Story
George MacDonald, described by W.H. Auden as "one of the most remarkable writers of the 19th century", was valued in his own time as an original thinker and spiritual guide. Of all his writing, it is the fairy tales that have retained their fascination, and this collection includes all 11 stories. The fairy tales feature the stock characters of traditional tales—fairies both good and bad, and children undertaking precarious journeys. Often adopting paradox and nonsense as Lewis Carroll did, the stories invite adults to deploy the same open-mindedness as children.

Considering the story within the context of the Western literary tradition, Lewis offers invaluable insights into Paradise Lost and the nature of literature itself, unveiling the poem’s beauty and its wisdom.

Story
The classic fantasy that influenced C. S. Lewis and Tolkien, considered one of George MacDonald's most important works, is the story of the young man, Anodos, and his adventures in fairyland which ultimately reveal the human condition. "I write, not for children," wrote George MacDonald, "but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or 50, or 75." All-at-once written with an innocent whimsy and soulful yearning, the heart of Anodos' journey through fairyland reveals a spiritual quest that requires a surrender of the self.

Delightful, but with a mistake.
Mr. Pickering again gives us a very entertaining rendition of Mr. Williams’s novel, but I will note that there is a patch of text missing in Chapter 17. Perhaps there were two pages stuck together in the reading copy? It jumps from complete sentence to complete sentence, and so perhaps wasn’t all that obvious, but it made for a somewhat muddled transition, so I checked my copy. I hope this can be easily corrected.

Charles Williams 's Supernatural writing at its finest.
The Stone that was in the crown of King Solomon of the golden age of Jerusalem has been stolen from the guardians who had kept it safe in Persia for centuries. Let loose into the English countryside by a thoroughly despicable narcissistic "scientist", it creates havoc throughout the culture until Chief Justice Lord Arglay and his faithful secretary agree together to submit themselves to the Name within the Stone to restore it to the Unity.
