About this listen

October 1143. A mysterious archer who kills cleanly and 'dissolves' into the forest, a missing train of pack mules on the salt road from Wich and a lord in the wrong place at the wrong time mean a crime the lord Sheriff of Worcestershire cannot ignore.

Bradecote, Catchpoll and the eager Walkelin are hunting a killer and a gang and whoever is giving them orders. They are not helped by a reeve keen to keep his position, a lord with his own ends to serve and a distrusting and vengeful widow with a haunted past, to whom Bradecote is increasingly attracted.

This one was was more of a romance than the other books, but I have read/ listen to the others in this series and they do go back to being more of a mystery. Love how the three investigators from different backgrounds work with each other. Will definitely keep listening.

Bit more romantic than the others

Started out well but the romance got too thick at the end. A bit nauseating to me but if you like romance novels you will probably like it

The previous books in this series were much more to my taste. I didn’t expect this book to be so much of a sappy romance. There were too many (and to lengthy) scenes of romantic angst that added little to the plot and just seemed like page fillers to make the book longer. The romantic side of the plot could have been incorporated into the book without it taking over the book. If another book in this series comes out I’ll give it a try but if it ends up being a romance novel I’ll probably ditch the series going forward.

More of a romance than a historical mystery

Good plot. Nice story
Why not end by getting the bad guys. No need for the silly rescue girl ending. It's old and wasted two chapters

The woman ruins the story again
