Publisher's summary

Audra Tadlock is bored with life in Hopeville, Texas, until she befriends handsome photographer McKenna Smith, who brings more excitement than she bargains for. Being kidnapped and traipsing across the countryside looking for her thought-to-be-dead brother is not the adventure she had in mind.

Nothing is as important to McKenna as receiving a pardon from the State of Texas. His luck changes for the better when he recognizes Audra, the twin sister of the man who shot him. But falling in love with the one person who can exonerate Smith may prevent him from winning his freedom.

Will the search for Audra's brother bring him the independence he desires or will she imprison his heart with her love?

Short but satisfying

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
McKenna's Woman is a book that sucks you into the western world. The description of the town's people as well as the scenery was good. McKenna's over-the-top "me man, you listen" grated on me at times but since this was how life was back in that era, it gave an air of realism to the time frame. The way Audra kept hating and loving McKenna brought some tension into this story. I thoroughly enjoyed the voice reading the story. Overall, this is a quick tale that you will enjoy listening to.

The story is not that long in length but lots l of vibrant characters, and a story line that pulls you to the heart of another era.

Excellent, quick listen

This was a quick, enjoyable listen. It was a great story that grabbed my attention from the very beginning. The narration was outstanding, too. Brenda Scott Wlazlo did an excellent job with all the different character voices and accents. Overall, a well written story, beautifully told. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Step into the wild west

McKenna's woman is a short historical romance. It is part of the Lawmen & Outlaws series. Loretta C Rogers has packed a lot in this short adventure but does not crowd the story. The book was the perfect length to get you involved with full story detail it was not rushed at all. Brenda Scott Wlazlodoes a great job narrating the book. I loved her southern twang when McKenna was speaking.

McKenna is trying to get a full pardon for his past crimes. He runs across Audra Tadlock, and one look into her eyes he knows he has seen her somewhere before. When he realizes she is the twin of the man who shot him in the back and is also the man he is after to exonerate himself, he decides to kidnap her and use her as bait to capture the outlaw.

Audra is bored with small town life until Mckenna comes to town. She hopes for some excitement with him around, but gets more then she bargains.

Mckenna and Audra head out to find the brother she thought long dead. If Mckenna has it his way he will be dead for real this time.

Fast paced, sweet western romance...

McKenna's Woman by Loretta Rogers is a quick novella that clocks in at just under two and a half hours. This is the fast paced but well developed story about McKenna, a photographer trying to clear his name, and Audra, a local dressmaker, who McKenna realizes is the sister of the man that he's after. This is a short, well-developed story with unique characters and a fun story line. I'd definitely recommend it!

Brenda Scott Wlazlo did a great job narrating this story and bring the characters to life. She honestly did great with both the male and female voices and added unique accents for characts where appropriate. I could really tell which character was talking just by listening to the character speak, which isn't always the case when it comes to audiobook narration. I'd listen to more books narrated by her anytime. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

True Grit Meets Clint Eastwood

This is a very gritty tale with perverse plot twists. Our anti-hero was once a gentleman but, like our heroine, left emotionally scarred by the war between the states, especially the atrocities committed by both sides against civilians. Some groups liked the raiding, rapine and pillage well enough to continue berserker quests after formal hostilities ceased. Redemption can come in various forms but the final question from Audra to McKenna was skirted!

Adeptly narrated by Brenda Scott Wlazlo, the tale comes to life with all the violence of war and its aftermath. And, yes, CAUTION for all the trigger points associated therewith; actions are neither glorified nor downplayed, but told starkly in this ultimately HEA (Happily Ever After) western historical romance.
