Publisher's summary

Mean Streak: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!

From #1 The New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown comes a heart-pounding story of survival, that takes the age-old question, "Does the end justify the means?" and turns it on its head.

Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.

While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce", Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name. She's determined to escape him and willing to take any risks necessary to survive.

Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can't turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law. Wrong becomes right at the hands of the man who strikes fear but also sparks passion.

As her husband's deception is revealed, and the FBI closes in on her captor, Emory begins to wonder if the man with no name is, in fact, her rescuer from those who wish her dead - and from heartbreak.

Combining the nail-biting suspense and potent storytelling that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best loved authors, Mean Streak is a wildly compelling novel about love, deceit, and the choices we must make in order to survive.

Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Unnecessary, distracting music.

The music accompanying the narration is awful and distracting. The story and narrator were good.

the music in the background

The music in the background was annoying. I kept thinking that my phone was ringing but when I turned the volume down I realized it was on the recording. why?

Narrator was great, music was not

I really enjoyed the voice of the narrator. However, this is the first book (of many that I have listened to from Audible) that also plays music intermittently throughout the story. There were many times that the music was louder than the narrator and others where the tempo of the music did not coincide with the storyline (soft music during an action scene, loud during a conversation, etc.) I hope this is just an isolated case because I really love listening to books on audio.

booktracked

I thought to myself that I hadn't listened to any Sandra Brown in quite some time so thought I'd check her out and see if anything struck me and this was it. It wasn't in my library so was pretty sure it wasn't one of the ones I'd listened to previously so thought i was good to go. Got into the book a bit and started wondering if I had listened to it before. Vague memories of a mysterious guy living in a one room shack in the mountains, comes across a girl, travels into the town down the mountain but couldn't really remember any details beyond that.

But the feeling nagged at me. I went back to audible and searched on the title, 'Mean Steak' and lo and behold the author had another book by the same name from 2014. I went back and forth and the only difference I could see was that my current book was listed as a 'booktrack edition' whatever that was? The only thing I could tell was that there was a soundtrack in the current version. I googled booktrack and learned that in fact what it was, a book with a soundtrack and there was a good number of them on audible although no description I could find as to what booktrack means.

I then though if I did listen to it 8 year I would have written a review as I write reviews on all my books. I went to the earlier version, click on write a review and got a message saying that I hadn't listened to enough of the book to write a review! OK, tells me if I did write an earlier review it had been overwritten by this book and they were one and the same. I don't often listen to a book twice, almost never, thought about asking for a refund from audible, which I've never done. Then thought to myself, since I didn't remember the details of what happened in the story maybe I would just go ahead and listen to it again.

Teh story itself is pretty good. Secretive guy saves girl, finds out she's a target and her incident wasn't an accident. He's very mysterious. But one thing leads to another and eventually it all gets figured out. I enjoyed it, again. The background music was OK but I don't know that I'd buy a book just because of that.

The narrator was great the music irritating

I will not listen to another booktrack book. The music was very distracting. I had to make a conscious effort to ignore it. I really enjoyed the book, but the story is very unrealistic in some places. SPOILER ALERT we are led to believe the "hero" is on the run from the FBI only to find out the FBI agent is his former boss, who although he knows of all the illegal acts the "hero" has committed, is only chasing him out of concern for him.

Great book except the music.

I loved everything about this story except the music. I didn’t think it added anything to the reading, and it became a distraction.
