About this listen

The brand-new thriller from the author of The Girl Beyond the Gate.

Deep in the woods, you can hide more than secrets...

Every day, in a remote cabin hidden deep in the woods in the Scottish Highlands, Mary wakes up before dawn to make breakfast from scratch. She tends the garden and feeds the animals. Every night, Mary makes sure she has dinner on the table for when her husband Cal gets home from work.

She puts on his favourite lipstick and greets him with a smile. 'I've missed you.' It's not true and he knows it. But he likes to hear it all the same.

Mary is the perfect wife and like any good wife she knows her job is to keep her husband happy.

But lately as she notices her first wrinkles appear, she can sense Cal change. A scowl at dinner not being ready on time, a too tight grip as he leads her to the bedroom tells her he's noticed too. And old memories are coming back too, of her life before the cabin...

Then she finds a stack of letters hidden under the floorboards detailing a life eerily similar to her own. They're addressed to her: 'To the next woman.'

If she's not the first to play the role of Cal's perfect wife, what happened to the woman in the cabin before her? And how long does she have until she is next?©2024 Becca Day (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

I found it hard to believe she was held captive for so long and didn't kill him in his sleep

I saw several people in my psych thriller reader facebook group say they loved this thriller so I decided to try it. It was fast moving, picks right up in the first few pages and continues til the end. The narrators voice is good but you can hear background noises, like swallowing in between sentences, papers rustling, her touching the mic sometimes, it was distracting and of all the books I listen to, one a day, every week, I have not heard this before. I liked the ending and overall was a good book, just not my favorite.

This book is full of so many avenues of emotions and twists, all mixed up into a ball with, “Whoa, wait, what?!” I couldn’t put it down 🙌🏼

Phenomenal 💜

Great descriptive writing however, gross misuse of God’s word. If you have not accurately interpreted the Bible , I would not read this.

Attention grabbing

Review: The Woman in the Cabin by Becca Day
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book definitely brought the creepy factor! 👀 Becca Day does a great job keeping you guessing—just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist pulled me in a different direction. The ending was satisfying and felt just right for the story.

That said, it did take a little while for me to get into it. The beginning felt slow, and I had to push through the early chapters. But once it picked up, I was hooked.

If you're into atmospheric thrillers with a touch of psychological suspense, this one is worth a read!

This story kept me guessing

The MMC and the FMC were both so unlikable and annoying, I couldn’t really root for anyone. I usually really like the isolated atmosphere but this one did nothing for me.

Not my favorite

The story is enthralling, it’s hard to stop listening, but it feels abridged. I’d have loved more backstory on all the characters, more from the perspective of the women as they cling to their sense of self under unimaginable circumstances. The story ends abruptly, and as a reader I feel cheated. We walk through this journey with them and don’t get the chance to really see them into the next chapter of their lives.

Captivating

Suspenseful, tension filled and entertaining. It was surprising and definitely worth a listen. There were a few minor plot holes but mostly well written

Pretty good
