Serial Murder Modern Times by Medieval Means

I signed up to review this book without carefully reading the description. I had wrongly thought it was historic fiction. It is not. It is a contemporary crime serial murder mystery. So, I am far outside my preferred genres of historic fiction and historic romance.

Detective Iris Williams and her partner Detective Annette Toni are assigned to investigate a gruesome murder done by medieval means. They are friends, lovers and super cops. The story is engaging and easy to follow. There are lighter human moments and bloody descriptions.

The first 15 chapters have tons of plot, character development and fun quirky bits. The middle drags a bit. But the last ten chapters have surprising twists and turns. The book is a whole story and resolves the criminal plot, but does leave you wanting to read more about the main characters.

Narrator is good and can do children and a variety if voices.

Maybe I should do more crime mystery fiction?
