Publisher's summary

Lacey Kennedy. A seemingly ordinary girl, living an ordinary life, but she possesses one unique ability, she can move things with her mind. Telekinesis. A superpower she’s learned to keep under lock and key and in doing so, she's taken on the role of a protector of sorts, seizing crime wherever she can. But a new vigilante moves into town and she has to decide whether or not he's a villain or the kryptonite that could destroy everything she holds dear: her heart. Will they become a superhero duo the city desperately needs or will the stakes be too high for either of them to survive?

Superhero mystery

Blessed by powers from a lightning strike, Kinesis is a dog Walker by day, superhero by night. But when a new Cape comes to town will he be her partner or her kryptonite? Superhero Romance with a touch of mystery thrown in. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked it but.

Pronunciation issues with the narrator. But does some decent voice acting. Not the best but not the worst.
I like the story in the end but

-Mild spoilers-
Some times where I’m stretching my disbelief a little to much like she got shot and left blood at crime scene not caring about people finding her blood there and after getting shot just disinfects it and puts gauze on it, or the fact she runs a dog walking service but has no people skills at all.

I hope there's a second part

It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities.
2 ok there are redeeming qualities.
3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea.
4 great but there's something off.
5 loved it.

So now about this story. A good beginning for a series. Hopefully it will get better as the series progresses. I can't wait for more of this, it ends cliffhangerish or open ended I guess you could say. I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't go into it.

The narrative is better than good.

I've recently had several conversations with people that have said that one of the things they'd like to see in a review is if I'd read/listen to it again. So I'm now adding that to my reviews. Yes I do believe I might, especially when the next part comes out it's a great way to recall the first part before going into the next part.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Wonderful characters, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Entertaining, Action-packed, Twisted, Steamy, Funny, Haunting, Whimsical.

Bookshelves/tags:
adult, adventure, alternatively-reality, angst, cliffhangerish, contemporary, dogs, humorous, kidnap, open-ended, paranormal, recorded, romance, series, suspense, tragic.

This book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

Action, romance and mystery in one

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I went a bit out of my normal choice of horror and sci-fi when I choose this one after looking at other reviews and listening to the sample audio. I'm very glad I did! The story was very impressing. The main character is very endearing and it's easy to feel an immediate connection to her.

It was part xmen, part x-files, with enough romantic suspense thrown in to keep you on your toes. I am not usually a fan of romance in any form, but there was just enough that flowed with the story line in this one that made it interesting and not gushy.

Well written, well developed characters.

Narration was exceptionally well done. Emotions were spot on.

I really enjoyed this one more than I expected to! I am looking forward to reading/listening to more.

Memoirs of a Superhero

This is a fun book. Definitely not your typical superhero book, but that's what made it so unique. I'll be watching for more by this author.

Likable MC superhero; terrific surprise ending

“Memoirs of a Superhero” is a wonderfully cleverly named book, but it’s not clear why until the very end…and no, I’m not going to spoil it for you!

Self-described socially awkward MC Lacey Kennedy runs a dog walking business by day (and charges REALLY low rates compared with Erik Schubach’s dog walking entrepreneur!), but can’t resist using her telekinesis superpower to go after criminals, despite pleas from a friend, and warnings from another super. Lacey is very likable, and there’s plenty of humor throughout the book. Her parents, for example, host nude clay sculpting nights in their home!

Lacey finds herself attracted to the mysterious super named Siphon, but he seems determined to dissuade her from being involved in his crime solving efforts. The story is very entertaining, and in Chapter 22 the pace quickens and the story becomes more complex. Lacey’s bff Rory finds an old photo of a “gifted school” that Siphon had said he’d attended. Hmmm….what happened to the school, and to the headmaster?

As the story of the history of the school unfolds we learn many secrets, and the reason for the book title becomes surprisingly clear! We have an evil villain, learn of Siphon’s lost love, and are treated to a particularly interesting ending.

The book has a terrific cover, and the narrator is enthusiastic and provides high-energy throughout the story.

I really enjoyed “Memoirs of a Superhero”. It’s not lesfic, but there’s only one scene of intense hetero, err…behavior! This book blends the superhero genre with a William Gibson like story of science fiction as a mental game rather than interstellar space aliens. 4.5* rounded up to a highly recommended 5* story!

Fun

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

First, I want to mention that I really like the book cover. It's what first drew me to this book.

This is my first book by this author. I found it to be an entertaining and refreshing take on superheroes. I loved that Lacey's "undercover" persona is as the owner of a dogwalking business. The story is a nice mix of humor, superhero action and a little bit of romance.

The narrator, Giselle Lumas, did a really good job. Her excitement during the action sequences really pulled me into the story. She did different voices for the various characters, making it easier for the listener to differentiate them.

Fun Short Read... Clever Writing

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

This isn’t the typical super hero book, but imo that isn’t a bad thing. I found the story interesting, and enjoyed listening to it. The main character isn’t massively over powered, and comes across as vulnerable, which I found refreshing. It’s on the short end of audiobooks that I typically listen to, but didn’t feel rushed. I’d like to learn more about this character.

Overall, I liked the narration as her voice suited the main character well. There were some opportunities for improvement as noted in other reviews; but I didn’t find them distracting. I thought the scene where someone from the service was chewing gum while talking to be cute as the narrator simulated the subtle sounds.
