About this listen

Mermaids. Mysterious, seductive, beautiful. The world has a collective fascination for the myths and illusions of mermaids.

In Mermaid, the line between make-believe and murder evaporates when the body of a young woman in a mermaid tail washes ashore on a Florida beach. Police think her death is an accident, maybe connected to a big-budget movie filming in the area. After another girl, this one working as a mermaid at a theme park, drowns, Sean O'Brien becomes involved because the daughter of his close friend may be the next victim, and O'Brien knows there are no coincidences or illusions when it comes to murder.

Good story

The story was good, but I think it is not as good with the new "narrator." He does not narrate. He reads the book. I could have gotten the book from Amazon and had Alexa read it.

DK

Wow! Changing narrators is hard on the listener, but this change also changed the characters as well.🙁

Narrator

The narrator of this book Reads well but as far as now reading a book every character sounds the same you have to break up the characters voice this narrator does not do that as far as reading the story It is very very bland I will not listen to this narrator again

Mermaid

This is another great book by one of my favorite authors.
The only thing that could have made it better would be if it was narrated by the previous person that did most of the others. I miss hearing Nick’s voice and how he calls Max “hotdog”. Each character their own personality and you knew them as soon as he spoke in their own voice.

Another good yarn

I didn’t object to the new narrator as much as so many others seem to have, but I must say that I missed Nick’s distinctive Greek-flavored voice. I have listened to the next book (with the same narrator) and he corrected his mistake.

I’m not sure that I like Sean O’Brien being so much in love, but he certainly deserves it, and the relationship is starting to grow on me. It’s very important that Wynona love Max as much as Sean does, and that is a sure thing!

STORY GOOD BUT.....

As usual, Tom Lowe successfully gave us a good story but changing the narrator was a BIG, BIG, BIG MISTAKE!!! You cannot produce a wonderful series with an extraordinary narrator such as Michael David Axtell and suddenly change to someone that can't offer anything close to what Axtell established. If Alex Knox had been the narrator from the very beginning, there wouldn't be anything to complain about. But with the distinct voices of all the characters that Axtell created, no one, and I do mean NO ONE can step in and replace him. The last two books don't come close to measuring up to the first 10. What a shame!!!!!!! I do hope that at some point in the future, Book 11 and 12 will be re-recorded with Axtell as the star.

Another Absolute Winner 🧜‍♀️

I got so emotionally involved with this one, I could NOT stop listening. GREAT story . . . and as always, excellent backstory with all of our favorite characters. I did not find the switch in narrators to be such a big deal as the other listeners, I guess I was so into the tale of the young mermaids being murdered that I did not hear the difference as much as everyone else. The growing relationship between Sean and Wynona is also important to me, and I'm looking forward to more in the series to see where that goes. I really enjoyed Nick's description of the mermaid lore and his encounters (although probably spurred on by too much alcohol 😂) as he sailed the seas. Great listen!

Terrible!

The narrator was awful! BRING BACK MICHAEL DAVID AXTELL! The storyline was not up to Tom Lowe's usual writing either! I will not purchase any more audible books with this narrator!
