Worth a read.

If I could do part stars I’d do 3.5. It was fun and I feel more adventurous already. A few things that put me at 3 instead of 4. It’s written for people in the UK and everything is geared towards that. Terms, locations, risks, etc. He is also really obsessed with sleeping outside. Which is great but I’d hoped for a wider variety of adventure ideas. I’ve been camping, hiking etc since I was a kid. And some of the ideas would be great fun to try. But many were just variations on a theme. It was a fun read though.

Inspiring!

I loved this book. Alastair is a great author and I really enjoy hearing his books through his own voice. I’ve begun trying some of the microadventures in this book, and spent the night camping in my front yard just the other day, watching the sunrise and enjoying the cold, foggy morning. Read this book and apply it to your own life, you won’t regret it!

Not inspiring

I was really excited to listen but it lost its inspiration due to how repetitive it was.

Inspiring for sure…

I love that he narrated his own book. His accent was fun to listen to and I think you get a better feel for the books intention when the writer reads it. This book was informative and inspiring. In learned things I’ve never learned before! I don’t live in England though so a good chunk of it was irrelevant to me.

A little repetitive but definitely inspiring!

This was my first-ever audio book!! I enjoyed it and it gave me the perfect excuse this week to get OUTSIDE and take walks. I absolutely loved the idea of walking while “reading” this book and I feel like it fit the theme of microadventures.

The problems I had with the book were that his idea of “micro” seemed a bit daunting for me!! Some of the adventures seemed quite macro in my mind, but I realize the author is very experienced. I also felt the book became a bit repetitive - I felt like every other adventure was about sleeping outside without a tent, which I’m not particularly excited about isn’t my idea of adventure lol.

There were tons of ideas and options in the book which I appreciated, but every time it came back to sleeping outside in a Bivvy bag, and it got a little boring for me.

That said, this book definitely has inspired me to incorporate more of my own type of mini adventures in my life. I like the idea that an adventure can just take a day and the idea of immersing yourself in nature. I already have ideas of little things we can do as a family and looking for mini bike races to sign my kids up for.

It was inspiring, informative, and educational.

If you like walking, running, biking, mountain climbing, camping, and sleeping outside tentless and want to find more ways to do that without having to plan a super extravagant vacation or you are short on time, or just need a little push to get outdoors more often, then this is the book for you!

I can’t finish it

I used one of my points to purchase this audible book for book club this month. I .cannot. finish it. His accent makes it hard for me to register the story. It’s a distraction for me.. I so badly want to finish it because I paid for it, but also because the print version is not in my budget. 3 stars for the story since I didn’t finish it, I’ll change it if I can get my hands on the physical copy and finish it.

Unpleasant narrator and boring

I suppose if you sit on the couch, this could seem interesting, but I think this entire book could be summarized in a couple bullet points. I couldn't continue to listen to a monotonous narration describe dewey mornings, etc.

The author has a blog, maybe I'll skim it for ideas, but the upshot is there are ways to explore the unfamiliar or unknown within a day's travel whether it be by foot, bike, train, or car. Do things at night or overnight in the nearby outdoors.

Since he's located in London, everything he refers to is around London, so that adds to the disinterest.

I'm going to return it since I can't finish listening to it.

love the idea, don't like the book

I couldn't even finish the book. needless to say I'm not participating in this month's book club revolving around it 😂 I love the idea of micro adventures and have been doing that with my kids since their birth, but for whatever reason this book was not enjoyable for me.
