Stewart Glen, Scotland - 1514
Masked in a Gypsy guise, Broderick MacDougal hides his vampiric identity while seeking to destroy the man who slaughtered his family. When an old Clan rival ensnares Broderick in a trap using an enticing widow, he is compelled to discover if she is bait or an accomplice, and the cinnamon-haired beauty is his next conquest.
Widow of an abusive husband, Davina Stewart-Russell clings to the only image that gave her strength during those dark times - the Gypsy rogue who stole her heart as a youth. After nine years, she is finally face-to-face with him again, but reality clashes with fantasy as she is confronted with Broderick's passionate pursuit.
When Davina's past returns to haunt her, Broderick is forced to reveal a dark secret worse than anything Davina thought possible. The challenge before them has fatal risks and neither of them is prepared for the sacrifices expected for the sake of eternal love.
Listener Advisory: The abridged version of Midnight Conquest still includes all the original storyline details, action and nail-biting scenes of violence and domestic abuse. (Don't worry...the bad guys get it in the end!). However, the love scenes have been edited and are no longer described in graphic and direct language, in order to appeal to a wider audience. As such, there are no more "glistening folds" details. (Collective groan of disappointment ensues...) Though this story can be enjoyed by listeners slightly younger than 18, parental discretion is still advised.

What made the experience of listening to Midnight Conquest the most enjoyable?
This was an epiphany for me. I have never understood the appeal of audiobooks. My experience with them was limited to The Bible and a non-fiction book I played on a long solo drive. I tried Midnight Conquest after re-reading it to see how the audio version compares. What a surprise! I loved it! The narrator, David Monteath, is a impressive with a large vocal range and acting expertise. The pace is just right and the quality of he recording couldn't be better. I did not feel I was missing anything in the abridged version. I wasn't even tempted to look for edits. It's all there.Who was your favorite character and why?
These characters are well drawn and engaging. I couldn't choose a favorite.Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was the near the beginning when the main characters meet for the first time. It is the foundation for the rest of the story. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was and I would never spoil it for others by describing it here. I will only assure you that love can overcome all.Any additional comments?
Highly recommended! You will love this story in the audio format even if you have already read it.My first audio book experience.

What about David Monteath’s performance did you like?
He has the right voice, tone, pitch and pace..Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.Any additional comments?
The setting of the novel takes place during 16 th Century Scotland.
There is just about everything in this storyline including a Prophecy, Two Romances, Blood Slave(s), Gypsy Fortune Tellers, War-Death, and Betrayal.
Broderick, the main male leads, most pressing concern is seeking revenge against an enemy.
He has a chance encounter with Davina, the female lead, they both seem to leave some kind of impression on each other, too bad he meets her several years too soon..
Years pass by when they finally meet again and Davina's concern is that Broderick doesn't remember her.
I liked Broderick, he was a decent male lead and I also liked Davina who was strong in character yet also sweet.
Overall, the storyline is an engaging emotional roller coaster not for the faint of heart, however, the storyline pulls you in and rewards the reader with an ending that will alleviate the scenes of violence and angst.
David Monteath was the best person to do the narration. "Awesome Sauce"..

This was an intricate story. To be honest, it took me a little bit to get into it. Broderick's character is exceedingly frustrating for a good portion of the book. He's a bit of a pompous jerk. He doesn't treat Davina very well until the end. Until near the end, all he seems to want from her is information on Angus and into her bed, without much regard for her as a person. Davina, who has dreamed of Broderick's return since she met him, was wed to an abusive husband and bares the scars (literally and psychologically/emotionally). Her dreams of Broderick returning for her were what kept her going over the years, but when he returns, he treats her as little more than a cheap bar maid. Regardless of all of this, the book has a HEA ending (aside from Angus still being alive, of course) with no cliffhanger.
Interesting story
