Publisher's summary

What if the president of the US personally asked for your help? That is the situation John Crudder faced. But the president not only wants the services of Crudder, but also of the Midnight Marauder.

John's mission takes him to his boyhood home of New York City and then into the executive mansion in Washington, DC. Crudder learns the president wants him to find the people responsible for the most devastating financial crisis the country has ever faced.

John finds these enemies of the country are also personal enemies of his. And they hurt one of the people most important to him.

Justice for Greed!

Author Roy Clinton is at it again with the great blend of American History around reconstruction, with a western flavor. Having President Grant requesting the services of John Crudder makes for an exciting tale that doesn’t disappoint in this narrated performance.

John Crudder educated as a lawyer abroad actually grew up in New York. When his father died, rather than take over his finance industry passion, he sought his future in Texas. At one point he was appointed Sherriff but had issues with the town council’s lack of honor. With his code of ethics, he decisively rooted out the evil doers in the Texas frontier and was compelled to deliver well deserved justice. John’s brand of justice reached the ears of President Grant, resulting in a meeting to discuss the issues with the railroad.

Howard Hastings thought he owned the Great National Railroad until William Summerall and his group purchased controlling interest. Railroads during Reconstruction were privately owned. When this consortium starts to buy up the railroads, they seem bent on a monopoly. President Grant wants John, to use his knowledge, talents, and wealth to open doors as an undercover agent of the government to determine if any crimes are being committed.

John along with my favorite horse, Midnight, accept the job. During his investigations the listener is exposed to rich historic details, lessons in morale code, and John’s brand of proving the right from the wrong. It is a fun story and great edition to the series.

The narration by R. William James is flawless the perfect way to listen to any of the books from Roy Clinton. Thoroughly enjoyable, but I am a raving fan!
