About this listen

The best-selling Extinction Cycle series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith first introduced listeners to a world ravaged by an engineered virus that turned men into monsters. Billions died, civilization collapsed, and the human race teetered on the brink of extinction. Humanity's only hope was not a cure, but another bioweapon. When deployed it killed 90 percent of the infected, but the remaining 10 percent transformed into even more terrifying creatures called Variants.

Heroes have risen up to meet these abominations. Men like Master Sergeant Reed Beckham of Delta Force Team Ghost and Marine Corporal Joe Fitzpatrick. Women like Dr. Kate Lovato and firefighter Meg Pratt. Throughout the world, survivors band together to fight the evolving monsters in an effort to save humanity.

Here's a collection of Extinction Cycle short stories that explore the human spirit and the fight for survival in the face of overwhelming odds from some of the leading voices in the post-apocalyptic genre.

This collection includes:

"Outpost 46: Deadwood" by Rachel Aukes

"Extinction Bridge" by Amanda J. Spedding and Geoff Brown

"The White King" by Eloise J. Knapp

"Mother" by G. Michael Hopf

"From the Ashes" by Michael Patrick Hicks

Would have skipped this one. Vol 1 was good to listen to. This one fell short.

Vol 2 not nearly as good.

Really enjoyed all of these stories. Found volume two overall better than the first. The first was good too. Highly recommend both volumes.

Really good.

this is a fun set of stories that tells side stories within the Extinction world. They're not written by Nicholas Sansbury Smith but they hold a similar tone. Definitely worth the listen.

The secound vol that expands on the Extinction Cycle universe from different authour all one common point in this vol they show the worst side of humanity and evil of the Variants.

Outpost 46 - was a week by week of events surrounding soldiers in the early months of the war has they watch the world be destroyed. The audio was annoying has it sounded like cloth over the speaker that made voices sound weird, and there was no chacther growth only people repeating actions there told with thought to change or learn why things happened has they did.

Extinction Bridge - was my least favorite story has it shorter then the rest. It follows a team of soliders has they preform a Halo dive into a city to find a scientist studying the virus. The chacthers felt like they where more luck then skill in there actions and the scientist assented was annoying has didn't give the soldiers any idea what they'd be face and the soliders where dumb not to ask her for Intel.

The White King - was the first novel to show the backstory on chacthers from the main series from the POV of a Variant to becoming an Alpha and his human collaborators. The story was abit meh has by the end of the story you thought one humans whos crazy was more special then he was but it was just tge author pulling the readers nose.

Mother - I'll be honest I was scared listening to it. The story follows two friends who have lost everything an then betrayed, but when they think they've found a safe place it's a true house of horrors. The narrators voice for the children was meh has sounded really fake, and the author gives no explanation on how the variant was being kept without escaping. Also I hope you write a sequal for this story haz truly want to know if there every stopped.

From tge Ashes - Shows soliders, FEMA, Red Cross, and cilivians in the first week of the outbreak has they fight together to get out of the city alive. The narrator voice for foreign chacthers accent was almost nonexistent and tge author should a lack of details for things by giving a more prefe say what it then saying things about. Also I really annoyedvwith dog death scene you could gave a warning for the animle harm in the story.

The vol that shows the Extinction Cycle darkness

Absolutly amazing book.Definetly worth getting this. Story was great! It is sad this is the last of this series! Wish there were more but I know all good things must come to an end, sadly.

Great story line!

These were good stories that either continued existing characters journey or introduced you to a new character and their struggles.

Thoroughly Enjoyed!

Good additions to the main series universe. Fully developed shorts that stood on their own unlike other zombie / apocalypse short story compilations I’ve tried which seemed more like unfinished story ideas pulled from various authors notebooks.

Really good shorts

I was so disappointed when amazon took Kindle worlds away. Now thanks to Smith they are back! These stories fit so well into the originals. All of these stories are awesome I can't even pick a single one to call the best. In my opinion most of these could be stand alones. So if you like Nicholas Sansbury Smith's works you'll love these. If you have found these and haven't read Smith's Extinction Cycle books you need to.

Thank You
