About this listen

James Patterson's scariest, sexiest stand-alone thriller since The Quickie.

Ben isn't like most people. Unable to control his racing thoughts, he's a man consumed by his obsessions: movies, motorcycles, presidential trivia - and Diana Hotchkiss, a beautiful woman Ben knows he can never have.

When Diana is found dead outside her apartment, Ben's infatuation drives him on a hunt to find out what happened to the love of his life.

Ben soon discovers that the woman he pined for was hiding a shocking double life. And now someone is out to stop Ben from uncovering the truth about Diana's illicit affairs.

In his most heart-pumping thriller yet, James Patterson plunges us into the depths of a mind tortured by paranoia and obsession, on an action-packed chase through a world of danger and deceit.

Best Patterson Book I have read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely

What does Kevin T. Collins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His "voices" were wonderful. As Ben, I was mesmerized.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Naw....nothing moved me....but it was great entertainment.

Any additional comments?

I started this book months ago and it was slow...really slow. Luckily I gave it a second chance because once it got going....I could not stop. Great story line, great twists and turns...relates well to current events (2014). I wish people who don't like anything JP does would just stop reading his stuff and writing bad reviews.

Only ok...

I am a James Patterson fan and, after reading the reviews, actually got this book by accident. I decided to give it a go since I'd already paid for it. The other reviewers are right- there is a lot of useless movie and presidential trivia that interrupts the story and it can be hard to get past it or keep the story straight in your head. I understand the point of it- the idea was to establish a certain pathology for the main character- but I think that there was too much of it which unnecessarily and unfortunately muddled the story line. Additionally, having successfully completed the book despite the trivia, I don't think that it was necessary to go to quite the lengths that they did... I think it was tremendous overkill. I liked the general plot but buyer beware... it's tough to get through at times.

As a person that prefers the smell of a good book and does have this one at home. I thoroughly enjoyed the sounds and voices of the characters. Good job converting me to a listener lol

Not great.

What did you like best about Mistress? What did you like least?

Too predictable. The inner dialogue was a little too much, it became annoying. Basically too much what could have been an entertaining thing.

If you’ve listened to books by James Patterson and David Ellis before, how does this one compare?

N/A

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

yes

Was Mistress worth the listening time?

Not really.

Any additional comments?

I thought it would be better.

Love it! I GOT all the references...

If you could sum up Mistress in three words, what would they be?

Brilliant, inventive and funny

Who was your favorite character and why?

The character of Ben is this fun loving, interesting and very brilliant guy, that really does not realize that he is fun loving, interesting and very brilliant.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrations was okay, I did not care for the music and sound effects

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

My thoughts are keeping me thinking...

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book immensely. The story is will told (I did not need the sound effects) I travelled with Ben in and out of the present moment to the past, and had fun with his superficial thoughts and I GOT all the references, (made me feel smart) and the references I didn't get, he explained them... It was a fun ride/read.
