About this listen

The perfect life....

A successful lawyer and loving mother, Nina Bloom would do anything to protect the life she's built in New York - including lying to everyone, even her daughter, about her past. But when an innocent man is framed for murder, she knows that she can't let him pay for the real killer's crimes.

The perfect lie....

Nina's secret life began 18 years ago. She had looks to die for, a handsome police-officer husband, and a carefree life in Key West. When she learned she was pregnant with their first child, her happiness was almost overwhelming. But Nina's world is shattered when she unearths a terrible secret that causes her to run for her life and change her identity.

The perfect way to die....

Now, years later, Nina risks everything she's earned to return to Florida and confront the murderous evil she fled. In a story of wrenching suspense, James Patterson gives us his most head-spinning, action-filled story yet - a Hitchcock-like blend of unquenchable drama and pleasure.

Who pissed off Mr Patterson and Mr Ledwidge?

Occasionally, Mr. James Patterson will author or co-author a book like this, where he is apparently pissed at cops...and I mean all cops. I think he and Mr. Ledwidge wrote this story after one or both of them were stopped and cited by an abrasive traffic officer, maybe on more than one occasion. There are way too many things that just couldn’t happen in these times of unified state licencing, public records, and media focus. And those inconsistencies compromised an otherwise interesting story line. His portrayal of police officers in this book boarders on being offensive.

Entertaining

Everytime I thought this book would end, it got going in a different direction. I walk around the block (3 miles) and listen to my audio books and I'm constantly entertained and that's all I'm really looking for to keep me walking. I'd never listened to James Patterson and really enjoyed this book and several Alex Cross books too. Keep them coming.

Definitely Entertaining

I was very hesitant to get this book after reading the negative reviews but it turned out to be very entertaining. I was wary of the reader at first because of the reviews but I actually liked her after a few chapters. She's a bit over the top and cheerful in beginning, which doesn't seem to match the story, but she calms that down once into the story. I actually thought the music added to the overall listening experience. To me, the flaw is in the story itself. At times it's pretty hokie, especially the end. But, bottom line, this book kept me listening and I've had a very hard time finding audiobooks that do that lately. If you want an entertaining book, this is a good one.

Great story.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat. The person reading the story makes you feel like you are going through it.

Give it a chance

The story for this book started off very weird but ended up having a cool twist to the ending. I wasn't completely immersed into the story until about halfway into it. So you may not like the book as you start off but give it a chance. It definitely takes a turn that you don't expect at the end. Overall a good buy in my opinion

Interesting

Liked the story. Not the music under the words. Took away from the story. One part sounded like music from Wheel of Fortune.

Perfectly Entertaining

I enjoy these books because they are entertaining.
I don’t care if they’re “unrealistic” and I simply don’t understand why that seems to matter to so many people. What do those people tell their kids about Santa Claus? This is a great read - ENJOY!

damsel in distress

Not the greatest book I've listened to by these authors. The main character seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time. there was to much coincidence.

Overall kept me interested

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, it kept me interested.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Some of the dialog or main characters thoughts were a little cheesy / awkward for me.

What three words best describe Elaina Erika Davis’s performance?

Wasn't a huge fan of the narrator doing a NE accent, but she was a good narrator overall.
