About this listen

Moon Child - the fourth book in the Vampire for Hire Series.

Mother, wife, private investigator... vampire. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now in Moon Child, sequel to American Vampire, private investigator Samantha Moon is faced with an impossible decision - a decision that no mother should ever have to make. A decision that will change her life, and those she loves, forever. And through it all, Sam finds herself in a lethal game of vampire vs. vampire as a powerful - and desperate - enemy will stop at nothing to claim what he most desires.

Series is getting better

I'm not sure if the authors writing is improving or his character building skills are improving, but all around I enjoyed this book much more than the others. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. This book was a lot more emotional than the other books as well.

Turn your dying child to a vamp or let him die?

Moon Child
Vampire for Hire, Book 4
By: J. R. Rain
Narrated by: Dina Pearlman
The books just keep getting better! What would you do if you son was dying and you could change him to a vampire? Would you? At age 7, he would be a vampire? Plus, another child is kidnapped, they thought it was her son. A lot goes on in this book!
The narrator is the same as the other books and this keeps things consistent. She is an excellent narrator/actress and makes this series 'POP'!!!

Good, Light Reading

I am a fan of this series, but it's a bit like a good bowl of popcorn; you enjoy it while you're eating it, and you're certainly sorry when it's done, but if something else exciting comes along, you can easily put it down. That said, I have purchased every book and will continue to do so. The writing is smooth, although I felt something was 'off' on the interpersonal relationships until I discovered JR Rain is a man-- then it made sense. Don't get me srong, he is a good writer and makes a great story and an easy read, but the women's inner voice seems like a man's version of a woman's inner voice if you know what a mean. This is a good combo of supernatural and mystery, reminded me of Dresden Files a little. Overall, a good, solid easy to digest series that I will stick with.

A nice twist on the standard vampire story.

I enjoyed the whole series. Each book has Samantha Moon confront a moral dilemma that asks the reader to consider, "what would I do?" This book's dilemma was a tough one! I think I would have chosen differently, but I'm glad I'll never have to make such a choice! I like that Samantha is older than other main characters in similar series, and that she has some life experience - and kids!

Reality Based Vampire Fantasy

Although I prefer stand alone books this series has managed to keep me coming back to see what the indomitable Samantha Moon faces next!

Samantha Moon trying to raise kids

But being a vampire made it really hard Her husband dumped her, and finally she go smart. and is learning how to be a Vampire all on her own with no help from her sire. But she's managed.Female married with children Federal Agent, gets turned into a Vampire. Messes with her work, her marriage, blah blah blah......But it really is an amazing series, has mystery, serious moments, and humor. I hope that this series continues to evolve. Every book just gets better and the narration is excellent Dina Perlman does great job

Interesting side effects of vampirism.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love the formula for vamp stories where female vamps have two lovers vying for their attention. This story is pure escapist entertainment.

What other book might you compare Moon Child to and why?

This book/series has the same witty repartee as the Sookie Stackhouse series. However I have not yet seen a character be a good mother and a vampire .

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes
