Publisher's summary

When I—along with my best friend and his big purple monster boyfriend—come across a fortress-like raider camp while journeying across the monster-infested Wastes, we stop to deliver a message.

Somehow, that simple pit stop turns into a seemingly impossible quest to get this camp's missing leader out of the prison where he's being held and forced to fight monsters and other humans. I know exactly where it is because I've been there.

Problem is, I'm making this journey with the prickliest and most arrogant guy I've ever met, who seems to hate me on sight. Oh, and he's also half-monster. So there's that. And he's in love with a raider who definitely does not love him back, and he seems determined to take it out on me. So there's also that.

I'm not going to rise to his childish insults and barbed words. I'm not. I'm also going to try very hard to ignore how mind-numbingly beautiful he is, even when he's scowling at me.

The longer we're out here together, the more I learn about my prickly half-monster companion Moth. I realize there's a reason he's so closed off and angry. There's a reason he hates everyone.

There are secrets he's been keeping, and when I find out what they are, I want to do everything in my power to help him—even though he's telling me he can't be helped.

Moth is book five of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order.

Contains mature content.

Love this series so much!!!

Each story in this series is such a great story. The world is so rich and unique. Every time I’m done reading one, I think to myself this is it, this is my favorite couple. Then I read the next and think nope this is my favorite couple. Now listening to the series on audible I’m having the same dilemma over again. Michael does an awesome job giving these characters a voice. Even if it wasn’t what I pictured in my mind, it’s exactly perfect when I hear it. So for now Moth and Charlie my absolute favorite! That is probably until Seraph comes out. Lol!

Perfect

This was my second favorite book in the series besides Soul Eater and the reader did it justice.

I adore this series

This is one of my favorite series. I read the books first before deciding on wanting them on audio.

The narrator is good at making the voices of the main cast distinct. That said, I don’t like all the characters’ voices. But it must be difficult to make and keep up so many distinct voices in an interconnected series like this so it’s fine. The hardest voices to get used to thus far are Hunter and Charlie’s. Basically, in my head their voices are swapped. Hunter is super tall and bigger so he has the deeper timbre. I couldn’t get used to hearing the narrators’s voice for Hunter in book 2. In this book my brain finally got more used hearing his Charlie voice. So minor thing really - just a personal take on what I imagined while reading to what the narrator imagined. That goes for several other characters. But that’s just artistic differences.

Overall, good narration and fabulous story. I adore Moth and Charlie’s relationship.

My heart still hurts a little

Moth’s backstory is so heartbreaking. Charlie is exactly what he needs. And chuck—I adore chuck too.

Charlie may be one of my favorite characters from the series. He’s just an all around good person—and the voice for him? 🔥🔥🔥

Thankfully some comeuppance was had for some of the side characters. Finally! Hopefully some more is on the way.

Stellar storytelling and a great voice performance as always.

Lily Mayne and Michael Leslie at their finest

This story is part of a series. Definitely start with soul eater. I have read each of the books twice and listened to them all on audio so far.

Michael Leslie is such a talented narrator. His acting and voice abilities are some of the best in the audiobook world.

My favorite in the series so far!! - easy 5 stars

Solid 5 stars in my eyes. This has been the surprise series for me. Never would I have predicted my love for this series. I picked book 1 to his a challenge prompt. And I have devoured each audiobook as they are released. This is hands down my favorite in the series so far. I felt this one. I got nervous in this one. I cried FFS. In a monster book! I didn't think Danny & Wyn would be dethroned, but move over beastie, I have a new favorite!!

I saw a comment that rings so true for me. The world building is simple, but so rich and just so wonderfully done.

And, I will admit, I didn't like the voice for Moth early in the book. But, in short order, I settled into it and got used to it. Then I realized it actually fit the character so well. By the end of the book, I LOVED the voice created for Moth. And Charlie - both voice & character? *chef's kiss*

Ok... I'm done fan-girling for now.

im shaking the bars of my enclosure (positive)

this is my favorite book of the series. getting to see Moth take revenge on his abuser, watching him and Charlie fall so hard for each other, not to mention their adorable banter. everything just clicks into place so perfectly, from the pacing to the POV switches. Michael Lesley also did phenomenally with the voices (even if Moth sounds uncannily like Nicholas Cage, which was very jarring at first) and i can’t sing his praises enough for bringing my favorite book series to life. <3

Anyone else think Moth’s voice sounds like Nic Cage?

Love the book as always, but I truly think Moth’s POV and voice sounds like Nic Cage … and Gloam sounds like Sean Connery.
