About this listen

Not all that is right comes from the gods. Sometimes, they demand much that is wrong. Liana and her twin are an anomaly at the heart of a kingdom bound by unyielding tradition. The crown princess is the first female marked as Herkun's heir, and her existence has unfortunate consequences. When her uncle leads a coup with the intent to kill her, Liana and her twin brother are spirited away to a place where not even the stars are the same. Lost and alone, with only her father's pact with a foreign goddess to guide her, Liana must decide whom she can trust. Time is running short, and the will of the gods is all. Mother of Creation is an epic fantasy that tells the story of the coming of age of a royal heir, a brother's quest to save his sister, the machinations of the son of a god, a blind oracle's dreams, and the struggles of an ordinary soldier.

Review Mother of Creation

Amanda McGee has done a good job of laying the foundation for this series. Because there is more to come, this volume does not resolve these beginning storylines; more of a cliff hanger. Definitely going for the next book in the series. Michelle Marie gives us a very good performance with her narrative.

I Was Surprised

I got this book via audiobook boom. To say I was surprised that I liked it is surprising in itself. I loved it from the beginning even though I had to sift through some of the different points of view. I loved how the author made the secondary characters important as well. The Seer and the Captain in particular. I was happy to see the twins step up to the plate and not expect the villagers to wait on them. She learned to wash clothes and sew as well as cook. He learned to hunt. Liliana is destined to be the queen and she shows how well she will rule by not backing down in a fight now doing things that would cause her harm. The narrator fit the story and made it come alive. The story was well developed and I liked even the problems that the king faced when he asked for his children to be saved. His curse was to go mad but he saved both of his kid's lives and gave them the chance to grow into their destinies.

Equality forged through blood...

WARNING TRIGGER ALERT, (Rape, incest)
Most of the story you have to get over the inequality between male and female characters, yes most still exists today but I try to make it not in my day to day life. if you like women who prove themselves equal or better then men through pain and torment, and hard work, then this will be your story. Set in a day of sword and shield, the battle rages on..

A great start but I hate cliffhangers

Yes a cliffy can't stand them. The story is reminiscent of Terry Goodkind's sword of truth and Jordan's wheel series. Wonderful beginning.
Spoiler alert and a warning normally I hate spoilers and won't include any but a major part of the plot has the rape of a 16 year old girl by her half brother, it's not graphic but it's there. So its a little squicky.
The narration is a little lackluster though, I almost quit but the story kept me listening. There is so much going on from several point of views that it would have been better to have a different narrator for each main povs.
This audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author and I provided this voluntary review.

Interesting story but very dark.

Even though this story is very entertaining, most of it is dark and depressing. Every character is suffering and only some have a spark of hope.

The story has many characters and the narrator was able to give them their own unique voice. It was very easy to follow and entertaining to listen to.
