About this listen

“Smart, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny!” (Liliana Hart, New York Times bestselling author)

Valentine Beaumont is a beautician with a problem. Not only has she got a meddling mother, a wacky staff, and a dying business, but now she’s got a dead client who was strangled while awaiting her facial.

With business the way it is, combing through this mystery may be the only way to save her salon. Until a second murder, an explosion, a kidnapping, death threats, and the hard-nosed Detective Romero complicate things. But Valentine will do anything to untangle the crime. That’s if she can keep her tools of the trade in her bag, keep herself alive, and avoid falling for the tough detective.

In the end, how hard can that be?

It was a good book. Kept me wondering who it was right through the whole book.

I feel that the story was influenced by Janet Evanovich without the funny characters. I found myself avoiding listening. I started weeks ago and still didn’t finish.

Boring

I found this book pretty interesting. I got it on sale so I figured it wouldn't be a big loss if I didn't like it. I'm intrigued to listen to the rest of the series.

There are a lot funny parts that keep you listening.
Though the main character comes across as a ditzy, high maintenance drama queen without a lot of common sense not exactly the kind of person who should be getting involved in solving a crime. Hopefully she gets smarter in the next 2 books.

An absolutely delightful story with laugh out loud moments. Would definitely recommend to others. Not what I usually read, but such a nice break. Would definitely recommend and hoping to find other stories with this same cast of characters for further reading.

Delightful!

Those cozy mystery had tons of laughs and charm. And the narrators Noah Michael Levine, Erin deWard did a phenomenal job bringing the story to life. The characters were kooky and interesting and some were likable while others, cough cough Phyllis, cringe worthy. I wish I could have liked the story more but I was annoyed by the over use of Valentine's internal musings and her overactive imagination. She spent more time in her head rambling thoughts than actually doing her investigations. I suspected the killer WAY before Valentine did because she spent way too much time thinking of nonsense and having it ramble on in her head. Also, her ridiculous over active libido got in the way of her behaving like an adult whenever she was around Detective Romero. It was all very cliché.

With all that said I did find some of Valentine's investigation to the untimely death of a client was pretty on point and somewhat cleaver. But the real star of this book was her hairdresser Max and his wonderful one liners. Between some of Valentine and Max I did a lot of laughing out loud that I'm certain my neighbors could hear me. Because of all the good laughs I had with this book I'm considering of reading the next book in the series.

If you are interested in reading or listening to this book then take it all in stride and know up front that this isn't your typical cozy mystery. You may have to wade through some of the bad to get to the juicy stuff and I'm sure you won't regret it.
