Publisher's summary
Jessica and her friend, Dr. Seth Hazlitt, get the shock of their lives when they travel to a Florida retirement community for the funeral of their old friend, Portia Shelby, only to discover she has been murdered. Needless to say, America's most beloved sleuth soon finds herself with a Palm Beach potboiler on her hands. Who would want to kill her dear friend? A neighbor with a personal grudge? Or the victim's handsome husband, next in line to inherit her riches? One thing is certain: the beach umbrellas aren't the only shady things in the seemingly innocent community, so now Jessica is in a race against time to solve this Floridian flummoxer before it's too late.

Story
It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

The day Anna McDonald's quiet, respectable life explodes starts off like all the days before: Packing up the kids for school, making breakfast, listening to yet another true crime podcast. Then her husband comes downstairs with an announcement, and Anna is suddenly, shockingly alone. Reeling, desperate for distraction, Anna returns to the podcast. Other people's problems are much better than one's own - a sunken yacht, a murdered family, a hint of international conspiracy. But this case actually is Anna's problem. Baseball may be America’s official favorite pastime, but for Martha Rose and her friends, quilting is far more fun… and a lot less dangerous. A diamond brocade pattern is more quilter Martha Rose’s style than a baseball diamond - especially when it comes to the new eyesore of a stadium ruining her lovely San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Martha doesn’t know a bunt from a bundt cake, but when she stumbles upon the battered body of baseball coach Dax Martin, she doesn’t need a scorecard to know it’s foul play.

But the vineyard is now shabby and run-down and her siblings want to sell it. Then Lucie's godfather tells her Leland's death was no accident. It was inescapably chilling, as if the murderer was methodically working his way down a page torn from the phone book. The three victims brutally killed in their own homes had one thing in common: They were all listed as M. Douglas. The fact that Mara Douglas is next on the list has her jumping at shadows, until FBI agent Aidan Shields shows up to make sure she doesn't become the fourth victim.

Story
Recently widowed Jillian Hart is rebuilding a life for herself and her three beloved cats - Chablis, Syrah, and Merlot - as a quilter in a small South Carolina town. The quilts she makes are for cats as smart, special, and sweet as her own, and business is thriving. But when she returns from an overnight quilting show, she discovers Chablis sneezing - and since Chablis is allergic to humans, that can only mean one thing: Someone has broken into her house. When she realizes her Abyssinian, Syrah, is missing, Jillian suspects catnapping. Spurred by Chablis and Merlot’s mournful meowing, she investigates - and discovers more missing cats and a murder.

Murder Madness
For a cozy mystery you can’t beat a Fletcher book. The narrator really compares to Angela Landsbury and makes for an enjoyable read. This particular one made me wish I was on a beach in the keys.

Terrible narrator
Good book but the strident tone of the narrator was extremely distracting. Had no problem listening to other narrators from this series. Especially liked Sandra Burr.

Jessica Fletcher is the GOAT
I grew up watching Murder She, Wrote with my grandma, and still watch it all the time. When I learned it was on audible I had to jump on it. This was the first one that I’ve listened to so far, and I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to listen to more!

Fun, easy read!
I really enjoyed the narration of the book through my fire tablet. I am able to go for long walks, mow the lawn, vacuum the floor, or bike ride while having this book read to me! Great reading voice. Really held my attention.
