About this listen

While investigating one murder, another more bizarre crime embroils Los Angeles PI Tom Logan in the strangest case of his career. Tom and his wife, Rita, are invited to a Halloween party by influential and reclusive 1930s newspaper mogul Charles Randolph. In Randolph’s mysterious castle perched atop a winding Central Coast hill, Logan encounters an odd array of suspects. These include a film actor, a journalist, a comic, and a lawyer, any of whom might be the killer. Gypsy fortune-telling, Tarot card readings, and most bizarre of all - a séance that "materializes" the spirit of a movie actress whose earlier death Logan had been investigating, immerse Logan into a chilling mixture of dangerous games played against a backdrop of menace and intrigue.

TRICK OR MURDER?

MURDER IN THE CARDS BY TONY PIAZZA .

Tom Logan and his new bride Rita are once again trying to have a decent honeymoon, too bad murder steps in again! Tom and Rita at the Grand Canyon get involved in the murder of an actress. Tom wants nothing but to step away from it to try to have a honeymoon.
Tom and Rita after getting home gets a case with a very wealthy client, Charles Randolph. Someone is threatening Randolph's mistress and he wants Tom to join him at his ranch to protect her and find out who wants her dead. Sounds easy right? No,not with a houseful of guests all dressed for a halloween ! What's really crazy is that the murder at the Grand Canyon and the deadly deeds at the ranch are tied together.

As with other Tom Logan books,in MURDER IN THE CARDS,the body count ticks up as the book goes along,as does the twists and turns, which is why I have gotten hooked on the series. The narration by James Romik continues to be great and Mr Romik makes the characters come alive !

Well done!

noir, murder, murder-investigation, celebrities, private-investigators, house-party, 1930s, Arizona, California*****

Neither hard boiled nor cozy, this imaginative mystery is a great read. The first murder occurs during an unseasonable cold snap near the Grand Canyon and picks up two more bodies in a fictionalized Hearst Castle. Tom and his new wife are just trying to have their delayed honeymoon when the madness begins. I loved it, and actor/narrator James Romick has the perfect delivery!
