About this listen

When Dr. Georges Moutte is found murdered, investigator Antoine Verlaque is stumped. Certainly the director of theology at the Universite d'Aix had his enemies. Moutte was just about to name the recipient of an elite fellowship as well as his own successor - a highly coveted position - when his lips were sealed permanently. But Verlaque isn't convinced anyone in the tiny community of academics is capable of murder.

Aided by his on-again, off-again girlfriend, law professor Marine Bonnet, Verlaque must turn Provence upside down, uncovering a world far more complicated than university politics, to find the killer before it's too late.

A must-listen mystery that transports you to the South of France with its lush portrait of a charming, historic town, this continuation of the Provençal Mystery series captivates.

This is the third book I have listened to by this author. The characters and storyline is well written. I started the series because I enjoy fiction books that include art. I love that the author also includes descriptions of the places in southern France and French food.

Even better

I came to this book via the woeful attempt at a TV miniseries. While actors were great, the scripts had been WOKED and plots changed,
But the book is delightful and the narrator is a dream. Such fine narration and the author brings out the beauties and traditions and culinary art of Provence. Look forward to
listening to the entire series.

Delightful improvement

I love this book. I read parts and listened to parts on Audible. I love this series as well. Thank you!

Such an engaging story and superb character development.

I picked up a series after watching the fantastic television adaptation. I was not disappointed.

Definitely worth the credit

I've listened to a few from this series now. I find then very entertaining and creative. They aren't at all predictable. I do personally struggle with the character names and French accent, such that I can't always keep the characters straight, but I suppose, if I spoke French, was more familiar with French names, or understand the accent better, that wouldn't be an issue for me.

Creative and Unpredictable

Poorly written, stilted conversations. set in Provence even the atmosphere it describes is terrible. The narrator makes it worse. I am done with this series.

Mind numbing dialogue

I've read and enjoyed this series a couple of times, so when I recently had eye surgery, I thought I'd revisit them through Audible. How disappointing.
I persevered through Murder at Chateau Brêmont, but could only make it through the first few chapters of this one.
The narrator seems to think we're in a French farce, giving the characters (caricatures) over-the-top accents which veer crazily from early Bruce Lee movie dubbing, to somewhere deep in Eastern Europe. Certainly nowhere in France.
Difficult to believe the author approved.

A good story ruined

I enjoyed the story BUT the narrator's faux French accent is so over-the-top that sometimes it's hard to follow. It's worse when she's speaking female characters then male. It doesn't add anything to the story to have to struggle decoding the accent. Her English speaking voices are just fine.
