Publisher's summary

Yard sales can bring out the worst in people. So when Scumble River school psychologist Skye Denison organizes a 100-mile yard sale, otherwise neighborly folk get downright nasty: her own mother creams a woman, and a battle of the sexes breaks out. But when her former boss is found murdered, nobody knows for sure how this cookie will crumble.

My Favorite Scumble River So Far

For those of you who enjoy Skye and Scumble River but find her and Simon to be a bit goody goody and dull sometimes, this is the book for you. I had gotten bored with Simon, and in this book he isn't around much and Skye seems pretty bored by him too, so finally she was up to some more exciting things in her personal life. There is a lot of relationship drama with various couples in town in this book as well. It also shakes up the status quo because Skye is not in school in this one, she is running an enormous yard sale. As tends to happen there are a number of snooty newcomers in town trying to bully Skye and her small town cohorts. I did not know who the killer was in this one. At any rate I enjoyed a little something different in this one and am looking forward to seeing where it goes in the next book. And not too much Bunny in this one either - she only made me cringe once, though it was a big cringe. Narrator does a great job, voices are all spot on.

The best so far

This is the best book in the series. I'm really glad that all of the books are available now because I can get the next one right away. I'm glad that Simon's days are numbered. He was boring and I think one of the reasons that the series was moving slow. I look forward to the next book.

Mother

The role of her mother is very annoying . I can’t imagine anyone putting up with a mother like that, especially an adult. Other than that I enjoy the stories.

Accidents Happen

What did you love best about Murder of a Smart Cookie?

What I loved best is that in the end Sky was okay and that she ended up not losing everything and she gained and estate, and Mrs. Griggs actually thought she was her daughter re-incarnated so she ended up leaving her things in her will. With each murder there is a little secret or a twist that ends up coming out, but each murder also changes relationships among the residents of Scumble River which is a good twist to throw onto each story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it continues on with the same main characters and only adding maybe 3 or 4 new characters that play a main part in the book, but for the most part it continues from where the previous book left off and with the same people.. I really like how it flows.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think my favorite scene was between Sky and Wally when they kissed. She is really torn between both of these men and they both give her what she wants and it is hard for her to choose between the two.
The end is also a favorite, when she called Simon's room and the Spike answered, that just put a whole new twist on everything for me dealing with Sky's love life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes it was. unfortunately I couldn't but I sure did want to.

Plenty of crumbs left to follow

While, not one of the best books of the series, Denise Swanson has painted a picture, small town life dealing with murders and how towns people deal with things. She also painted the way people had a relationships I believe and a rather realistic manner that definitely made things enjoyable. however, there are moments where I look at the main character and sometimes want to smack her upside the head for her stupidity. however, while the main character is in some ways self-aware of her own foolishness, you would still think that she would maybe grow a little more. however, again this is a book and it was enjoyable, well written and definitely something worth listening to. Cannot wait to listen to the next book
