About this listen

Hudson Valley winters can be brutal…and deadly!

Dr. Kate is once again on the case (not to mention thin ice) after discovering a young engaged couple frozen to death in the lake. To make matters worse, her temporary receptionist appears to have overdosed from a recreational sedative used at the animal hospital.

Kate barely has time to dread Valentine's Day (and the fact that she’s alone on this holiday, once again) as the police investigation shows that all three fatalities are in fact homicides. But who would want the young couple dead, just as they were embarking on a new life together? And who pumped the temp employee full of enough animal tranquilizers to drop an ox?

Kate doesn't know where to begin until she stumbles upon a connection between the three victims and decides she needs to investigate further rather than let sleeping dogs lie. But will her investigation leave her any time to get to know the handsome large-animal vet she's just met on a house call? And is the injured wild crow she's taken under her wing in fact an omen of more bad things to come?

A wonderful “murder” of crows!

I love learning bits and pieces of animal health and traits that we overlook by having only one pet! When is the next in this series?

Another thrilling murder mystery by Dr Eileen Brady!

I’m still never able to figure out the murderers in Eileen’s thrilling Dr Kate Turner series of mystery novels - highly recommended for mystery fans and animal lovers.

Enjoyable Read

Setting the Scene: "It's February in the Hudson Valley and Oak Falls veterinarian Dr. Kate is once again up to her galoshes in corpses

Hudson Valley winters can be brutal…and deadly! Dr. Kate is once again on the case (not to mention thin ice) after discovering a young engaged couple frozen to death in the lake." An additional murder pulls Dr. Kate further into things, and spending Valentine's Day alone may no longer be her biggest concern.

What I Thought: This was a welcome installment in the Dr. Kate series. I enjoy interactions between Kate, Maury, and the all-knowing Cindy, and there are some new personalities in the mix. The mystery(ies?) was well written and plotted with more than enough suspects that kept me guessing to the very end. This book opens lots of doors and bodes well for more books in this series. [If you have not read this series, as always, I recommend you begin with the first book. However, it could get confusing, so be aware that the series was first published as the Kate Turner, DVM series with 3 books: Muzzled, Unleashed, and Chained. The series name was changed to Dr. Kate Vet series with two books preceding this one: Saddled With Murder and Last But Not Leashed. So, I recommend you begin with Muzzled and proceed from there.]

Excellent read

This is one of my favorites in the series but I wish te character could stay in the moment with her BFs versus always doubting. And her dog is not a rescue. She kinda stole it but for good reasons. The story itself was very good with lots of twists and turns.

One of the Most Enjoyable in Series

Lots of enjoyable moments with this installation of Dr. Kate's life. If you have enjoyed this series, you are sure to want to read this one. The narration is spot on~ better than ever, and its always been great. The story line is unpredictable. And I love the animal & bird portrayal~their friendship, loyalty & comraderie. Also, Dr. Kate's professional & love life gets vs boost in the right direction. The characters are very entertaining. I recommend this listen.

Murders of a feather

This is a great series. This author does a lot of research and is very intelligent. I never find things in her books that are in accurate or inconsistent with other books in the series. She also incorporates different species of animals. Even though I really only like dog, she does put some other animals in the books just to make them informative and interesting. Some romance, but not a whole lot just enough to keep it going. The on-again, off-again love life of the main character keeps the books interesting and gives us more characters into suspect in the murder’s. I never find out who the killer is before the book and even though I try, and I always think I have it figured out which I love. Keep up the good work I hope Kate keeps the clinic.
