In an age of ice nine millenia past, her destiny is tied to the brave sons of orphaned chagak and her chieftain mate kayugh - one to whom, Kiin is promised, the, other for whom she yearns But the evil that her own family spawned drags the tormented young woman far from her people - where savage cruelties, love and fate will strenghten and change her... and give her the courage to fight for the future of her own helpless progeny.

Was hoping that by book 2 the narration would get better but it has not. I find myself at times wanting to give the narrator a rescue inhaler. The reading is choppy as if a middle schooler is being made to read aloud in front of the class. The gulping for air between words and pausing in mid sentence as if turning the page to find the next word makes following the storyline hard, also it seems like she changes how she pronounces certain words and names throughout the reading. Not to mention the monotone.

Hard to listen to Narration

For supposed ice age based on a hunting people, the background details are sketchy at best. While Jean M Auel gets a bit carried away with the background details at times, this series lacks all the requisite background to frame the series into n ancient past. It could just as easily have been 200 years ago as 9,000 years. The narration continues in such a monotonous voice that it is a terrific cure for insomnia. At least all the "taking of women" avoids graphic details.

Missing details, monotonous narrative

I truly love this story and this was my first time listening to it rather than reading. The reader wasn’t bad, though she could have added a bit more life or emotion to the reading. Other than that, great job.

Awesome story, reading needs a bit more life

I've read this multiple times, but this was the first time I've listened on audio. This made a huge difference in the story, and totally transported me. The pronunciations I had gotten wrong so many times were wonderful to hear. Loved this.

fabulous

Some would say negative this about this series because of some rough situations the young women endure but the bigger picture is inspiring. shows how this you Ng woman has a straight like no other and how she helps herself. She is strong. She is a mother. She is clever.

Like I said, there are some parts hard to hear but the author does this delicately. I recommend a listen, get to the end. You won't regret it.

My phone nly grip is hearing the cars zooming past in the background when the narrator is speaking. You don't hear it unless you're using earbuds but it can be distracting.

After reading the 1st in this series narrated by the same person I swore I would never buy another. Decided to give her a 2nd chance and will be reading vs listening. This narrator is so monotone, nasally and lacks horribly. I was so annoyed I gave up and bought the Kindle reader version. Much better experience and story.

Last one I will purchase an audio version of.
