About this listen

2018-2019 Rainbow Awards Runner-up, Best Gay Contemporary Romance & Romantic Comedy

When a series of personal crises prompt risk-averse research librarian Aaron Templeton to apply for a job on the other side of the country, nobody is more surprised than he is. He nearly runs home before the final interview except for one little problem: he has no home anymore. He put his condo on the market before he left California and it’s already sold. Only an encounter with free-spirited Connecticut native Cody Brown at the Mystic Seaport Museum staves off Aaron’s incipient panic attack.

Cody loves nothing better than introducing newcomers to the great features of his beloved home state, and when the newbie in question is a rumpled professorial type with the saddest blue eyes on the planet? Score! The attraction between the two men deepens as they explore Cody’s favorite spots, but when difficulties arise and Aaron’s insecurities threaten to overwhelm him, will Cody’s love be enough to keep him in Mystic?

Mystic Man is a 32,000-word novella featuring a pertinent internal playlist, suggestive shellfish consumption, and a six-year-old who thinks history should have more girls. HEA guaranteed.

Mystic Man was a lovely novella. I adore a good story with opposites attract with a bit of an age gap. This hit the right notes for me. E.J Russell never disappoints with nailing a setting. I didn’t want to leave. Kirt Graves was stellar.

Wonderful setting

It's a sweet little novel, and the narrator does a good job. For me, a purely romance novel without spice necessarily falls a little flat.

good, but no spice

Emotional rollercoaster ride with this one. Totally an opposite attract romance. An older neurotic educator meets a free spirited younger man. They meet and the chemistry is almost instant. I think this was a little angsty due to Aaron's constant neurotic behavior and Cody constantly talking him off the ledge. The ending what made this a sweet romance and it was nice...very enjoyable. Kirt Graves did a wonderful job as narrator. I love his character voices. Definitely would recommend if you love short sweet with little to no heat emotional romances.

This is a shorter listen that is so cute! I love that the neurotic character is paired up with the adventurous character. I love watching the dynamic that is created.

Mystic Man is about Cody and Aaron. These two are as opposite as can be but some how they still work. I loved the way the guys grew together. I really appreciate how E.J. Russell told this opposites to lovers story. E.J. Russell is an amazing author and I look forward to her next book. Kirt Graves does a wonderful job of narrating this book. He makes the change in characters seamlessly. I can't wait to listen to the next book he does. I would definitely recommend this book.

E.J. Russell is fast becoming my favorite author, their writing style combined with the amazing talent of Kirt Graves is perfect. Kirt Graves embodies all the characters so well, I’m able to imagine them in my head with Russell’s stellar writing. This book was fun and I enjoyed the way Aaron and Cody connected even though they were in different stages of their lives. The romance between both of them simmering but sweet and heartfelt I loved their relationship progression. I recommend this book!

This entire story is something that you would see on the lifetime channel except it’s queer. It has good pacing, great narration and a good story. I think the personality of the two main characters are very fitting. They stay consistent throughout the entire story, even though it’s a short one. Highly recommend if you want a quick listen low commitment with good payoff.

It’s a sweet “Lifetime” queer novella.

Aaron and Cody are a match made in Mystic heaven! I loved these guys. This story is worth listening to. One is risk averse and the other has never met a risk he wouldn’t take. Together they balance each other out beautifully. Delightful story and Kirt Graves does a great job of bringing these guys to life. I also adore Cody’s little niece and her “hey you” stories.
