About this listen

Leon Alcantara is a real son of a witch.

The last in a proud line of witches, he’s come to test his small magic in the big city. Stealing enchanted artifacts pays the rent, but the competition is fierce. And handsome. And great at magic too.

But Maximilian Drake and his dark, brooding glances are the least of Leon’s problems. A chain of anomalies surges through the city, strange distortions in reality that threaten both Dos Lunas and its people.

Suspected by the arcane authorities, Leon is forced to work with his nemesis to clear his name. But Max is so secretive over his shrouded past. Can he even be trusted? Leon must decide before the anomalies destroy the city—and his entire life.

A fun new installment in Nazri Noor’s series!

This book was snarky and funny. There were a few scenes where I was like “really?” at the absurdness between the characters. Leon and Maximilian were funny and snarky together. Leon was especially snarky and he constantly teased Maximilian! I enjoyed their relationship dynamic and the way they steady got closer. There were definitely some steamy scenes!

Beyond Leon and Maximilian’s relationship, there is an interesting mystery that they both have to solve. I enjoyed the world of magic Nazri Noor created, and the plot was well executed.

The narrator, John Solo, did a great job bringing this story to life!

A fun romp

This books was a lot of fun. I love all all Nazri's books. This one was a little more romance than adventure tale but still full of snappy dialog. I look forward to continuing the story.

A New Couple to Love

This is the first book in a new series by Nazri Noor. In this series he takes us to the new town of Dos Lunas in his world. We meet Leon, a Pilipino bruha drifter magic user, who is trying to survive by “recovering” magical objects. During one of his heists, he runs into mysterious Max, another finder, who attempts to scoop the treasure away from him. When a third mysterious party makes off with the object instead the two finders join forces although they clearly antagonize each other. As they get to know one another and each one’s secrets become uncovered, they begin to recognize the attraction between them. Nazri brings to life a new set of heroes in this book that I know we will come to love and root for as much as we do his other characters. This book can be listened to as a stand alone from his other series. At this time there are no crossover characters, although I would not be surprised if some show up later, and I wait with bated breath!

.John Solo is a new narrator to me and I totally enjoyed is interpretation of these characters, He brought them to life and each was clearly distinguishable. He is a worthy addition to Nazri Noor’s library of narrators.

Great New Series!

Nazri has done it again. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tension between Leon and Maximillion is palpable as soon as the two meet. Will they do their own thing as they compete to find particular curiosities stolen right before them? Will they team up to get the job done? Nazri always does a great job bringing together found family. If you enjoy not-quite-enemies to lovers trope, you'll enjoy the onset of this new series.

I found one thing particularly frustrating with the narration. Soto did not differentiate well enough between the main characters' voices. During their dialogues, I would have to pause listening and rewind to figure out who was talking several times throughout the book.
