About this listen

After the horrors of Istvaan V, Horus declares outright war against the Imperium. In the shadows of the Emperor's Palace, powerful figures convene.

Their plan is to send a team of assassins to execute the arch-traitor Horus and end the war for the galaxy of mankind before it's even begun. But what they cannot know is that another assassin is abroad already, with his sights firmly set on killing the Emperor.

View of assassins

It’s a good look at all the different houses of assassins which is great. However the story itself is not great by itself.

Simply Amazing!

I haven’t even enjoyed a Horus Hersey book this much since I listened to Flight Of the Eisenstein! The narration was superb, and flowing from chapter to chapter. I found myself immersed in each of the characters, as Jonathan Keeble voiced them with such independence of each other. Truly a spectacular audible to download!

I feel giddy

Like a backstage groupie. Another tantalizing story to the HH.
I recommend it like I do ALL Black Library books.

Good side story for the heresy

Good side story. Does not advance the main plot. Can be skipped, but worth the listen if you like stories that do no focus on Space marines.

Story was good, production has issues.

The story was good but the way it was produced made you have to back up often as there are 3 story’s going at once and story reader would not pause between one sentence and another. So it would make no sense as times as he would run story thread into each other with so much a as breath. Topic A into B into C without pause or shift in voices or anything. Made it hard to listen to at times.

Interesting Story Piece

The book itself gives a view into how the assassination branch of Terra works. There are plenty of details of how humanity adapted the practice over the millennium. It also shows at the time of the Heresy how much your every day citizen was effected by the Heresy and how it changed daily life in the Imperium. The other interesting aspect of this was it showed how little people knew of Chaos even the most informed operatives were left mostly in the dark.

My only concern about the performance and this is probably more an editing thing than a performer thing. These books have chapters with multiple scenes and characters in them. The other Horus Heresy audiobooks there is a natural pause you can tell when the scene changes and a break between scenes. I had to go back at times and relisten because they would bleed together and you would be in a new scene with no break or indication of the change. I don't know if it was just read all together or someone edited out those pauses but it makes it murky to listen.

Magnificent

Another turn and another look into the void, questions of how far the Heretic’s reach really is, and more good fill perish at his hands
