About this listen

It begins at a movie studio in Nice where a police raid goes horribly wrong, killing innocent men, women, and even children. It continues in an English prison, where a dead man discloses an intriguing secret about the brutal criminal organization called the Union. The trail leads James Bond to Paris, where he meets the tantalizing movie star Tylyn Mignonne and embarks on a voyage of sensual discovery.

But Tylyn is in mortal danger. Her husband, a volatile French film producer, has not forgiven his glamorous wife for ending their troubled marriage - and he is connected to the Union's thugs.

Meanwhile Bond's friend, French agent Mathis, has disappeared while tracking down the Union's mysterious leader, Le Gerant. Bond's journey takes him to a thrilling underwater brush with death, a chase through the Corsican wilderness, a surprise encounter with an old friend - and a final confrontation with a twisted criminal genius.

While this novel was not even close to being as good as Thunderball, Goldfinger, Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, etc, it has its moments of excitement and a few surprises. Benson struggles with too much product placement and a few Q-gimmics, but the story puts an interesting twist on characters from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. As with other novels, Benson struggles to bring the plot to a close from beginning to end, and Bond is still a tad unbelievable, which is too bad. The narrator is outstanding though.

Benson keeps getting better

The last installment of the union trilogy while not bad didn’t live up to the previous installments. The ending is a little disheartening for fans of Fleming.

Serviceable but not great

It had a bit of a slow start, and as usual for me,trying to keep all of the foreign names straight was a bit difficult. About a third of the way through the book the story and plot really took hold and kept me glued to the very end. This was a great read and I think would be a really great movie.

Great read great finish could be a great movie

Starts a bit different for a Bond tale, but picks up well. Also, some old characters are well placed throughout and a nice twist. The Benson Union saga was excellent.

Good Ending to the Union saga

Keeps well within the style of Fleming. Pretty girls, fast cars, evil geniuses and armies of minions to dispatch. Narrator is the best.

Pretty good 007 book - feels like the real Bond

This was another great Bond audiobook. The story was the typical action packed story. But what makes all of these perfect is Simon Vance’s narration.

Another amazing Bond story told by Simon Vance

I liked the Bond paced action in this story. The author did a fantastic job capturing Bond. The live interest was an ideal twist that helped the story line . For me the only miss was the “seers” Good addition to the suspense, but to me failed to go anywhere. Overall a good Bond adventure and good narration.

Another good bond story

I definitely enjoyed the book. It started off a little bit slow, but as the book went on you realize that that was on purpose. They did a lot of defining and explaining that made it very easy to visualize the text. It was performed very well. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Solid Bond Story

I tried to give this book my best attention and could not. It took me a total of about 3 months to finally get through and crack it. It could have been the narrator which I don't think he quite captured the spirit of 007. I find that the union was a lame attempt to bring back the glory days of SPECTRE and SMERSH.

never dream of dying causes one to dream...

A few good scenes, but many ridiculous choices by characters and some serious plot errors.

Way too many illogical or impossible plot points
