About this listen

Never...

assume you know someone. Harry Blue is the top sex crimes investigator in her department. She's a seasoned pro who's seen it all. But even she didn't see this coming: her own brother arrested for the grisly murders of three beautiful young women.

Never...

accept a reassignment to the middle of nowhere "for your own good". Harry's been sent to a makeshift town in a desolate landscape - a world full of easy money, plenty of illegal ways to spend it, and a ragtag collection of transient characters who thrive on the fringes of society. A place where little grows but evil flourishes.

Never...

trust anyone. Looking into a seemingly simple missing persons case, Harry's been assigned to a new "partner". But is he actually meant to be a watchdog? Still reeling from the accusations against her brother, Harry can't trust even her own instincts, which she's never doubted...until now.

Never...

go anywhere without leaving a trace. Far from the world she knows and desperate to clear her brother's name, Harry has to mine the dark secrets of her strange new home for answers to a deepening mystery - before she vanishes in a place where no one would ever think to look for her.

Never Never is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with enough intrigue and suspense to keep you guessing until the final minute. You'll never be able to turn it off.

Maybe Patterson just isn't for me

I keep trying James Patterson books and just can't seem to appreciate them the way so many others do. This one was quite interesting as a basic who done it, with the side story being more of an interruption than anything else. The side story turns out to be a coming attraction of a sequel, so it was completely useless to this story.
I really liked that the reader's accent matched the main character so well, making it feel like the listener was truly listening to a first hand story telling. Unfortunately, there are times when the story is told in the second person by the same reader, making it a bit confusing. Overall, the story was on par with a one hour detective drama, but still worth a listen even if you aren't a Patterson fan.

Intriguing

I really enjoyed this book, despite guessing the identity of the perpetrator early on in the book! I do recommend it as a very entertaining read/ listen.

Left hanging

Mostly the story was good but felt left hanging at the end. What happened to the brother? Guilty as charged?

Entertaining

I enjoyed this story. It is an escapist read that does not require a great deal of brain power to follow and I found the pacing fine. I don't believe the main character would be tolerated in a real life law enforcement environment, but I am okay with that in a fictional context. She is uninhibited in many respects and a bit quirky. Other characters in the book were interesting, but I am not sure the motivation behind their behavior always rang true. About the performance, I especially enjoyed the narrator. Apparently others had trouble with her accent... I loved it. After struggling through other narrators that take a long breath between each sentence, I found this narrator's reading clear, well paced and expressive without being too theatrical. It fit my imagination of the primary character well. At least one storyline carries into the next book of the series, so not everything is wrapped up at the end of this one. However, enough is resolved to be satisfying.

Edge of my Seat

Held me on the Edge of my seat the whole time, never saw the end coming... only complaint whould be the lack of different voices, or inflections. The orator used prety much the same voice for all the characters and sometimes distinguishing the difference between them was tricky, but overall good performance and Excellent story

Not one of my favorite Patterson books

Not an impressive story line—but overall a big fan of all Patterson books. Abrupt ending. Although I enjoy the Australian accent, there are many slang words and pronunciations that are hard to grasp. Narrator needs to make at least an attempt to individualize characters voices. No vocal variety or changes in pace. Sorry, a poor narration.

Nice twists and turns but too long

I really enjoyed the plot twists and turns and the ending was a big surprise. The book had to many chapters/pages/twists. I would have enjoyed it immensely if we could have gotten to the end sooner. it read like a person writing an essay that had to have a set number of pages or words and it was stretched to make it long. Longer for the sake of longer.

Narrator was horrible

This was not Patterson’s best work. However, the Narrator only made it worse. She was very dry. Her voices were horrible and you could hear her swallowing and trying to moisten her mouth.
