About this listen

New York Times best-seller Jennifer Estep continues her Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series with a novella starring Silvio Sanchez, the vampire assistant of Gin Blanco, as he goes on a holiday date that turns out to be more deadly than romantic.

Working for Gin Blanco (aka the Spider, the assassin who runs the Ashland underworld) doesn't leave much time for romance, especially with Gin's holiday party planning in full swing. But when he catches the eye of a charming gentleman, Silvio finds himself going out for coffee.

All's fair in love and war, though. Just as Silvio is starting to enjoy himself, he realizes he's being watched. His nice guy date doesn't sense the danger, and Silvio wants to keep it that way (and, well, keep the guy alive), so Silvio ends the date early - only to be abducted by some villainous giants. Will Silvio survive the night and make it back to the Pork Pit in time for Gin's holiday party? Only if he decks the hall with bodies.

Short

Well done if you are not very familiar with the series, but some knowledge is probably neccessary.

Elemental Assassin Book 15.5

Elemental Assassin Book 15.5.

Silvio has a date that Gin will not allow him to skip. When the date takes a turn for the worse, he tries to lead his attackers away from his date. However, the man just can't take a hint. When they're both captured Silvio knows he has to protect him.

This book is a great little addition to the Elemental Assassin world. The narration choice makes sense, but it is just not the same without Lauren.

Where's Lauren Fortgang?

I really don't get why publishers think they need to change the female narrators in well established series to males just because there's a novella from a guy's POV. 9 times out of 10 the female narrators male voices are far more convincing than the male narrators female voices. This guy makes Gin sound like Barry White and he doesn't even do her accent! When you've listened to 14 books in a series you get used to the voices and other narrators just sound wrong. On top of that, this narrator just isn't that good. Glad this part of the romance package and I didn't waste a credit.

As for the story, it's a fun little novella featuring a great character we don't get enough of! Worth buying the e-book, not worth a credit.

Interesting look into this world

If you have ever wondered what happened with other members of the Spider's world this is a great opportunity. Although quite short it gives us an opportunity to see that Gin's friends are just as protective of her as she is of them.

not as good as the rest of the series

this book was ok, story line was easily figured out , but still enjoyable and I liked learning more about Sylvio. But the narrator was awful, made it difficult to enjoy. Skip this book and move on to the next in the series

Nice short story

Gin’s personal assistant finally gets his own story!! A coffee date gone awry, Silvio proves that he can be as resourceful as his boss in a fight! A fun novella with plenty of action. The narrator did a good job. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

An interesting story.

This was my first book by Jennifer Estep. It's part of her Elemental Assassin series but I enjoyed it as a stand-alone story.

Gin Blanco and her assistant are preparing for a holiday party but Gin encourages Silvio to go on a date with a handsome guy who's caught Silvio's eye.

From the intro I thought that maybe this was going to be an MM romance (which I love) but it really turned out to not be a romance at all – and that was fine. The story held my interest and the narration by David Marantz was very good. There were a lot of things happening in this short audiobook. Some great action scenes and some pretty descriptive bloody ones, too.

This short glimpse into the Elemental Assassin world piqued my interest enough for me to look into other stories in this series.

Silvio's Story - Woohoo!

I’ve always like Silvio, ever since I first met him in Black Widow. He is a character that I could always relate to. He is a bit of a tech geek and very organized. He is also a information hound. I think I fell in love with him as a character when Silvio and Finn used to race to find information that Gin needed quicker and more of it. I kinda liked the idea that Finn was getting a run for his money. I was very excited to her that Silvio was getting his own book (even more so than Finn).

So this story is set during the Christmas season. Silvio has a date. I wouldn’t call it a big date, but it was supposed to just be coffee. So, Silvio has this date with a guy he met at the Pork Pit. They’ve had some nice conversations while there, but now it’s time to take things a step further and go out with just the two of them. As with Gin and her gang, things didn’t go quite that easily.

This is a short story, so I won’t go into details of where it goes from there. Just know that this is exactly what you expect from an Elemental Assassins story. There is a good fight scene. There is a good scene where Silvio has to use his mind to get himself out of the situation that he got himself into. Silvio proves that he is more than just an assistant. This wouldn’t be a Jennifer Estep story if there wasn’t great food included, so check there too. LOL

I will add what appears to be the moral of this story (and I wouldn’t consider this a spoiler), always backup your devices on a regular bases. If you’re a fan of this series, you know how much Silvio loves his tablet. His is never without them. I’m the same way with my phone. I back it up all the time, because I don’t want to loose anything. Computers are important as well. So remember, always backup your devices. LOL

Narration
This story was a little weird to listen to at first. I’m so used to Lauren Fortgang as the narrator for this series, it was weird to hear everyone with someone else. I completely understand that they wanted a male narrator to voice Silvio. He is a guy after all. This was the first time I’ve listened to David Marantz. I will say that he did a good job with the narration. I thought he did a good job with the women and the men. He even did a good job with Sophia, who has a difficult voice.

Finally! A Silvio story

Finally Silvio gets his own novella!

This was a wonderful novella, even if it was a little sad. I have liked Silvio since he was introduced. He really is the perfect assistant for Gin. We finally get to see him really handle a problem on his own and he is a pro. I liked that he doesn’t let his emotions get in the way of completing the job, even when his heart was breaking.

This also had a lot of holiday cheer to it, even with the dead bodies. I loved seeing Gin get into the holiday spirit with a party, even if her idea of decorating was very unique. Also, Sophia’s outfit was awesome and I love that we are always getting to see her goth outfits!

This was a very enjoyable novella. I do hope we get a longer story with Silvio in the future though, especially after that potential hint of who might be interested in him at the end of this story.
