About this listen

To sleep, perchance to die.

Johann "Father" Gunter and Robert Durling find themselves in the small town of Clemons because of a dream the news reporter Belinda Carstone had. The night they arrive in town, they know immediately something is amiss. The mayor of the town has died in a tragic accident in her home.

Johann and Robert pose as members of the KMTN News crew to gain access to the house where the mayor died. Their investigation takes them down a wild and twisted path. They learn interesting things about the town and the people, and we learn a few interesting things about Johann and Robert.

It's a tale of death, intrigue, suspense, and demonic possession that you will not want to miss.

3rd in Series

I read the book back in Sept. but enjoyed listening to. I totally enjoy the characters of Father Gunter and Robert in this supernatural series. In this book Mayor Benson was killed and demon takes over the now Mayor Tibbs. Father Gunter and Robert are trying to save town and get the demon back where he belongs. He still is trying to get his sister Theresa back from the demon (she does makes a brief appearance). I cannot wait until Confessional to see what Johann, Robert and Belinda come against. Only complaint was too short wanted it to continue; Recommend to anyone who likes the supernatural. This audiobook was given to me by author and I provided this voluntary review. Keep writing. THANK YOU!

Enjoyable Paranormal Romp

As someone who often journeys into the world of urban fantasy, I'm always excited for the opportunity to explore another universe, and Father Gunter demon hunter was another to digest and enjoy. This story was short and kinda minimalistic in terms of plot and world building, relying more on the personalities of the main characters and the quips they throw around at one another to keep listeners interested. Luckily it comes off as a realistic social dynamic from a team of any kind and to some extent like a buddy demon hunter story.

However while the personalities and interactions can be pretty goofy, the stakes are most definitely not. That really struck me throughout as kind of an interesting juxtaposition wherein the characters seemed to serve as their own comic relief at times, one of those situations where you laugh to keep yourself from screaming.

Narration was fine, my only real problem and it might just be me is I've never heard Johann pronounced Jo-hann. So while I'm sure the narrator was right, it bothered me but as I'm most likely in the wrong I don't hold that against it. The narrator did also provide some sound effects throughout to heighten the mood and did a pretty good job bringing the story to life.

I received the audiobook review code for this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review. I definitely recommend taking an adventure with Father Gunter Demon Hunter.

Good Series Installment

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

Having not heard any of the previous books, there were times when I was confused by certain character interactions. Most authors provide some background during a book to clarify such things. I can be certain it isn’t present in this book but if it is I missed it. That is my chief criticism, but again I could be at fault. The only other issue I had was that on multiple occasions it says something about the demon being able to be in multiple places but that never seems to happen. It seems like a wasted detail to be repeatedly expressed.
John H Fehskens did a solid job with the character work. However, there were several sound effects throughout the story, most of which were more distracting than helpful. The effects often overshadowed the narration. There is a certain appeal to the notion of enhancing performance with sounds, and some properly it can be effective. However, this story did not call for it nor did it work for me.

Night Mares

Another wonderful addition to the series. I especially liked how the story focused on how Robert and the fear he was experiencing as a newbie to the demon hunting business. I'm curious how Robert's "gift" he was given will play in future stories. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great Book

Night Mares: Father Gunter, Demon Hunter Supernatural Thriller Book Three was another good read by J.R. Pestel. Father Gunter and Robert go to a small town because of a dream that reporter Belinda had. They arrive at the same time that the mayor has died in an accident in her home. They pose as members of the news crew to get into the house. I really enjoyed this good read by J.R. Pestel.

Father Gunter Rides Again

Johann and 'Bobby' head over to Clemons because a member of their extended team has a dream. Once they get there, things start to happen fast! They learn that the town has a dark secret they are desperate to keep and that the mayor knew things she should never have known. Things move quickly and, in the end, Johann becomes his usual bada$$ self and saves the day.

I enjoyed this installment in the father Gunter series. It moved quickly, got right down to business and showed a lighter side at times that helped balance the darker parts of the story. I liked how Johann poked Bob any chance he got and I especially liked how Bob overcame his fears and grew as a demon hunter.

Very well done

Even coming in in the third book I was impressed with how much I was caught up in the story and wanted to know more. The characters were very well portrayed and drew you into caring for them. The Narrator did a good job of keeping you engrossed in the story and bringing the characters to life. I received a free copy of this audio in return for an unbiased review.
