About this listen

The last case of police negotiator Jack Nightingale’s career ended in the death of nine-year-old Sophie Underwood. Since then, he’s saved his own soul from the devil...but now he is haunted by Sophie’s cries for help. When the police drag him to the hospital to meet a supposedly comatose gangbanger who keeps saying Jack’s name, Nightingale realizes that this is Sophie’s desperate attempt to reach him from beyond the grave. Sophie needs Jack, and to save her, he’ll have to face the police, south London gangs, and hell itself - again.

A riveting climax to the Nightingale trilogy, Nightmare is a freight train of action and suspense that pits eternal damnation against the indomitable will of the human soul.

Critic reviews

“Leather is in the top rank of thriller writers.” (Jack Higgins, New York Times best-selling author)
“Authentic...tersely written...exciting stuff with plenty of heart-palpitating action gingered up by mystery and intrigue...” ( Daily Mail)

Just Trying To Give a Different Perspective

This audiobook has gotten pretty terrible reviews on Audible and Audible UK, and I expect it may be enough to stop people buying the series. I just feel compelled to write something on the book and series from a different perspective.

Yes, I agree that some people may have listened to the first books with a different narrator, and not liked the change. However, taken on his own merits, Ralph Lister did a more than admirable job, and was able to convey different voices with nice distinction. I enjoyed his narration.

And the story. Well, I'd suggest listen to all three concurrently. They form a whole story. And it is a fantastic tale of a man thrust into the world of the supernatural. I definitely feel compelled to listen to this book again in the future.

I'd definitely recommend considering this series. And if you want a more balanced review on the story themselves, check the large numbers of favorable reviews for the books, including this one, on Amazon. They are a fantastic series, and I'd hate to think of people missing out on them just because of some oddly negative audiobook reviews here.

Frustrating Ending

I am tired of Jack calling Jenny "Kid". I thought the ending was annoying. The author dug himself too deep and used a trick to get himself out. The narrator was very good.

Too Slow

I couldn't get into this book as hard as I tried. Too much talking and not enough action.
