About this listen

"A twisty, jet-fueled thriller... Don’t miss it!" (Lisa Gardner)

Packed with the electrifying pacing and pulse-pounding suspense of Harlan Coben and Lisa Gardner, a thrilling debut about a mother desperate to find the connections between her missing husband and a deadly stalker who knows too much about her own dark family history.

Driving home one rainy night, Cassie Larkin sees a man and woman fighting on the side of the road. After calling 911, the veterinarian makes a split-second decision that will throw her sedate suburban life into chaos. Against all reason and advice, she gets out of her minivan and chases after the violent man, trying to help his victim. When Cassie physically tries to stop him, he suddenly turns on her and spits out an ominous threat: "Let her die, and I’ll let you live."

A veterinarian trained to heal, Cassie can’t let the woman die. But while she’s examining the unconscious victim, the attacker steals her car. Now he has her name. Her address. And he knows about her children. Though they warn her to be careful, the police assure her that the perpetrator - a criminal named Carver Sweet - won’t get near her. Cassie isn’t so sure.

The next day - Halloween - her husband disappears while trick-or-treating with their six-year-old daughter. Are these disturbing events a coincidence or the beginning of a horrifying nightmare? Her husband has been growing distant - is it possible he’s become involved with another woman? Is Cassie’s confrontation with the road-side attacker connected to her husband’s disappearance? With all these questions swirling in her mind Cassie can trust no one, maybe not even herself. The only thing she knows for sure is that she can’t sit back while the people she loves are in danger.

As she desperately searches for answers, Cassie discovers that nothing is as random as it seems, and that she is more than willing to fight - to go the most terrifying extremes - to save her family and her marriage.

NO BAD DEED was a GOOD READ!

Terrific new author debut accompanied by a superb narration.

The first half of the book was very, very, very suspenseful and impossible to put down.

The last portion of the book, however, was disjointed and sometimes hard to follow. (I listened to the final portion of the book twice and still found it hard to follow!) The book had many characters with multiple storylines and if the author kept things simple by sticking to the missing husband theme and eliminating at least two of the characters, this book would have earned 5 stars from me. I am avoiding giving specific examples to avoid spoilers.

This being said, I will be looking forward to listening to the author's next book!

A “Maybe” For Your Listening As Nothing Close to Barbara Kingsolver’s Books

I liked that love of family is central to this story. And that there was fear that the husband was having an affair with someone other than his wife that was manufactured by an another hateful woman. Also that local police were effective in the final arrest of the several bad people. A happy ending is also satisfying as life isn’t always that way.

Just OK-Can't put my finger on it

A 3 is generous in my opinion, I like the narrator but the story line just did not hold my attention. I like twists and surprises, this seemed tried to hard to make suspenseful.

Heart Racing Action!

A book I could not put down. Full of many twists and action, it took my breath away. I normally do household chores while listening to my audiobooks; this book I could not. I was glued to find out what happens next. Highly recommended book!

Boring

The narrator was great. The story line could have been really good but it just seemed like the build up was taking wayyyyy too long. The ending was ok but getting there was just dragging on in my opinion. . And like another reviewer said , I just can’t put my finger on what is missing.

'G' for General Audience

I wasn't expecting a Nancy Drew level story. Only at chapter 13, and ready to check my next book.

Ehh

I feel like the author tries a little too hard in this novel. She introduces too many plot twists and it's really hard to keep them straight. Nothing seems to be connected until the end. Also, the character development was lacking (not to mention the main character was not very likable). Not my favorite, but not terrible.

SO…SO

Why, all the story started out intriguing and interesting. It quickly became very convoluted with too many characters that seemed more and more unlikely to be believable, even for fiction. I’m glad I read it, but wish it wouldn’t cost me a credit.
