About this listen

Italy might seem like a long way to go to hide after a disastrous date. But when sexy uberhacker Slash (no, that's not his real name) asks me to go with him to Rome on an investigation, the timing is sort of perfect. My messed-up love life becomes the least of my worries, though, after the dead body, the near-kidnapping and the discovery of a top secret encrypted file that even I can't hack.

With time running out, there's only one thing to do: call in the legendary Zimmerman twins and my best fluent-in-Italian friend, Basia, to crack the code. Now if only someone could help me solve the mystery of whether Slash is flirting, or if all the kissing is just one of those "when in Rome" things...

But when we finally uncover the secret someone would kill to keep, it's up to me to solve the case and save the lives of my best friends.

Just another week in the life of geek-girl. Lexi Carmichael.

Great story, terrible narrator

I love this author and this series! It’s a fun, humorous mystery with a lot of surprises! However, I recommend reading it yourself, as this particular narrator’s inability to create even passable foreign accents (Irish and Italian) make this series painful to listen to!! I’m so sad because this series would be amazing in the voice of a capable narrator!

What A Gig-The Vatican!

Would you consider the audio edition of No Place Like Rome to be better than the print version?

Yes. I always like the audio better than print although I usually get both. The audio adds to the book with a good narrator and Kristin Watson Heintz is excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

I like all the references to Italy, the food, the lust of Slash for Lexi altho he doesn't act on it. His grandmother Nonna and just everything about it. It was a delight to see how Lexi could take the gun and act against every one of her instincts to save her friends. She is developing into quite a strong woman.

What about Kristin Watson Heintz’s performance did you like?

Her ability to make the accents sound real instead of fake. She is quite good at changing voice inflections so you know who is talking. She's not as good as Patricia Routledge but she's very good. I'd listen to other books narrated by Ms. Heintz.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. When they are in the cave and the bomb is about to go off. Lexi and Elvis make a good team and it seems to be touch and go for a little while. I was pleased to see how it ended.

Can't wait for the next book in this series!

I love this series! The Lexi character is so realistic. Geeky, unsure of herself, doesn't realize just how awesome she is! This book is a lot of fun because it takes you to Europe and the scenes with Slash and his Nonna are hilarious! I don’t know which man Lexi will end up with, but I know it will be a fun journey along the way! I can’t wait for the next one!

No Place Like Rome

Best one yet. Lexi is letting loose her inner bad arse, exploring her feminine side in some hilarious antics, and is finding her place among her peers. Several guys have thrown their hat in the ring and she is oblivious. It's kinda funny. Lexi saves the day with seconds to spare. Such a good book and loved the mystery. Just wish the narration was better.
