About this listen

Welcome to the wickedest city on earth....

Ye be warned - this series contains sexual situations, drug usage, foul language, crude humor, beaky parrots, and tedious historical details. This collection includes books 1-6.

Against the political stage of 1689 Port Royal, Jamaica, the unswerving Atia Crisp is thrust into the world of bondage, violence, beauty, and love. Shipwrecked and sold into slavery with her sister Livia, the pair are soon separated and Atia is used as a pawn in a card game. Captivated by her beauty, Atia is swiftly liberated by sugar merchant, Capitaine la Roche (also known as the pirate, Gator Gar), whose past is stained with blood and grief. La Roche works with a network of friends and allies including local strumpet, Cherry Banks, Theodore Binge the card shark and the kindly, medication loving Dr. Strangewayes. Soon Atia and la Roche are ushered away to safety after a mysterious outbreak of scarlet fever wreaks havoc on the city.

Within the luxuriant tropical confines of Dr. Strangewayes's plantation at the foothills of the Blue Mountains, bonds of friendship are formed and the fierce love between Atia and Capitaine la Roche becomes absolute. Atia is reunited with her sister, piratical father, and unexpected old friends. However, nowhere is safe as spies seek out both Atia and la Roche for the bounties on their heads. Neither of them can escape the shadows of their former lives and must rely on each other's strengths for survival. Their journey leads them to an inevitable conflict that threatens their world, but inches them closer towards freedom.

Pirates, oh my!

I was offered a copy in exchange for an honest review, and I jumped at the opportunity. Because... pirates!

This story was surprisingly engaging and detailed. You can easily notice a lot of research was done about the time and vessels. Don't worry, even if you - like me - are not familiar with nautical terms you will do just fine. In my case, I can even say I learned a lot!

I am glad I could get all the six books in a single volume, as the story is engaging and I kept wishing for more. At about three to four hours per book, it was the perfect length for a day of commute and housework.

I really started to care for Atia, and I think Elaine's narration helped with that. She has a very pleasant and fluid narration style, and was the perfect fit for the story in my opinion. Elaine made Atia sound so badass at times, and that alone made me a fan.

You better believe I'll keep an eye for more from the authors and narrator!

Romance Adventure

This book starts off slow but picks up and you can't put it down for wanting more. The love affair between Atia and the capitaine is so crazy with little rest between drama. Their fight for freedom makes you want them to find peace. The ending is upsetting because we have gone full circle and leaves you needing more.

Very impressed by the audiobook quality

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I think this would be an enjoyable listen anywhere - commuting to/from work, doing things around the house or just sitting down to listen.

What other book might you compare No Quarter: Dominium to and why?

I think perhaps fans of Game of Thones might enjoy this because there's a large variety of unique characters.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't know if I could chose just one favorite scene. There's such a variety - carriage chases, pirate battles, love scenes and wild celebrations.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Since the story takes place in Port Royal, I think the tagline should be - welcome to the wickedest city on earth.

Any additional comments?

I was very pleased with the quality of this audiobook series. The narrator did an excellent job capturing the emotions of the characters and conveying the meaning of the story.

Interesting story

Atia and her sister Livia were shipwrecked and the only survivors. Capitaine la Roche aka pirate Gator Gar won Atia in a card game. Then a grand adventure started. It was nice to have six books in one listen.

Dominium the complete series

The setting is in the sixteen hundreds, it is very descriptive, and you get a real feel of the period and you get caught up in the story. I think there is something for everyone, with pirates, history and romance.

Series Before No Quarters Wenches

I regret spending an Audible credit on this series, but I had mistakenly gotten the subsequent series (No Quarter Wenches) started it, got lost and thought it was because I had not done this series. But, I found this series confusing as well. I found I did not care for any of the characters and often lost the plot line. While I do 500+ historical romances a year, this was my first "pirates" series.

Really Long

I listened to part 1 & 2. I was interested because this book was about Port Royal in Jamaica. By the accounts of this book people lived horrible and short lives because of the constant fighting between the corrupt military leaders who ruled Port Royal, the (red coats) English, the French, pirates, buccaneers and natives. I felt the book was too lengthy. There is no way I would have read this book. There was so much happening, with many characters which made it hard to follow at times.

The narrator Elaine Baden did a fantastic job of voicing this book. She was able to keep the characters and their accents straight.
