About this listen

From phenomenally successful fantasy author Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time), writing as Reagan O'Neal, comes The Fallon Blood, a splendid story of the American Revolution, now for the first time in audiobook format.

In 1765, Michael Fallon, an Irishman on the run from brutal English overlords, makes his way to Charleston, South Carolina, as an indentured servant. Bound over to Thomas Carver, a successful merchant, he quickly shows a knack for trade—and a disturbing attraction to Carver's beautiful, sensual daughter, Elizabeth. With luck and intelligence—and not without bloodshed—he rises into the rice-planting aristocracy of the Carolina Lowcountry, where a frontier spirit pulses beneath the superficial trappings of an agrarian society that is heading rapidly toward revolution.

Michael Fallon hopes for peace. But the winds of war are rising, and the planter must become a privateer....

And the early dalliance with Elizabeth leaves a bitter aftertaste....

This audiobook follows the less familiar Southern course of the war, including the battles of Cowpens, King's Mountain, and Eutaw Springs (the bloodiest battle on the continent until Shiloh); and brings onto center stage such notables as Ben Franklin, Cornwallis, the Swamp Fox Francis Marion, the British Colonel "Butcher" tarleton, Colonel William Moultrie, the Marquis de Lafayette—and a true cast of thousands!

Critic reviews

“Successfully blends action, adventure and sex with historical background. Like John Jakes, O'Neal knows how to keep his story moving.” —Savannah News-Press

“O'Neal not only writes with great virility, but he has done his historical research well. His ability to make characters come to life is admirable and The Fallon Blood is a wonderful way to escape from it all.” —The Charleston News and Courier

“Jordan's pulsing characters and exceptional historical and maritime research successfully evoke the excitement of the birth of a new nation without neglecting the romance, sex, and adventure of the private lives involved. While this Fallon series is a departure for Jordan in terms of setting and place, all of his fans will enjoy this exposition of valor, bravery, and love in American Revolution wars.” —Book Page

Robert Jordan does bodice ripper.

Enjoyed the historical fiction of Revolutionary War from the Southern perspective. Unfortunately he is terrible with women characters, as was continued in his Wheel of Time women characters.

Pretty standard historical fiction

This is serviceable historical fiction, enjoyable but not outstanding. I got frustrated with the stupidity and foolishness of the two main female characters. The narration was quite good.

Bad writing, worse history

I confess, I couldn’t make it past the first half of the book. The narration was very well done, but the characters lacked depth and the author seemed more concerned with heaving bosoms than with actual storytelling. I found it very disappointing that the author was much more concerned with getting the young ladies undressed in the books than he was with learning ANYTHING at all about what was worn by women of the time. His lack of basic daily life research made it impossible for me to suspend disbelief and become engrossed in the story, with the shoddy descriptions throwing me out of the narrative to much the same effect as a leg cramp throwing one out of a sound sleep.

Disappointed in content

This is a good storyline and the narration is great. There is just too much sexual content to continue listening.
