About this listen

Virginia Black's No Shelter But the Stars is the space opera you've been waiting for—packed with warring worlds, romantic adventure, and larger-than-life characters.

Kyran Loyal is the last heir to the lost throne of a forgotten planet, the figurehead of a nomadic people fleeing the galactic tyranny of a brutal regime. Davia Sifane is the unrecognized daughter of an imperial despot. When happenstance pits them against each other in battle, neither expects the outcome: they are the only two people to survive. Marooned on a barren moon, their only hope of survival is to rely on each other, but what they learn will either kill them or change the galaxy forever.

Fantastic story in the hands of a skilled storyteller, Virginia Black nails it. I was sucked in immediately and would love to see this as a film one day!

I never read sci-fi and I loved this book!

it was hard for me to get immersed into the story as I kept getting distracted by the narrators accent.

Great story, poor performance

Highly engaging storyline with a bit of danger, suspense, creepy alien bugs, court intrigue, and heart. Pleasantly surprised with some good steamy scenes too (always makes a book 10x better imo). It felt like watching a movie, very easy to get caught up in this story.
Didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I did. Well written, good narration, captivating story. Definitely recommend!

This book is so good. I waited to listen to it and I don’t know why! The world they find themself on and the development of the MCs is just perfect. You can feel their struggles and hunger from starvation. As their relationship goes from enemies to lovers it’s just, oh my heart! Yes it has some spice and a HEA. It did pull on my heart stings a bit too.

Why did I wait to listen to this? It’s so good.

This slow burn enemies to lovers space romance is lovely, sometimes brutal, and absolutely riveting. Excellent narration. I high recommend!!

I loved this story. The characters are amazing.

I liked the narration by Trei Taylor.

This is a classic space sci fi book. It was a pleasure to watch the characters meet and develop through the course of the story. Enemies who have shot each other down fall in love while relying on each other to survive on a barely habitable moon.

I am always amazed by the worlds, universes that an author can make. Even more so when the author develops a credible religion and martial art practice. Virginia Black has done an excellent job of doing so.

I will try to follow the tenet of drawing a circle of influence, based on my current roles and reserves. And then do my best to handle all that circle encompasses.

Such a message for 2025

I loved this story of two strong, proud adversaries finding their way to love and leading their people towards a seemingly impossible peace.

Terrific read

The pacing is terrible, the plot holes are gaping. The narrative is clunky and at times confusing as two disparate paragraphs are run together as one confusing lump. The characters are arbitrary and it feels like the author has never met an ACTUAL strong woman who doesn’t weep at every inconvenience. It’s frustrating that queer readers are so starved for representation that we settle for poor storytelling— there ARE takes worth 5-stars but this just isn’t one of them.

NOT 5-stars
