About this listen

In No Shortage of Good Days John Gierach takes listeners from the Smokies in Tennessee to his home waters in Colorado, from the Canadian Maritimes to Mexico - saltwater or fresh, it's all fishing and all irresistible. As always he writes perceptively about a wide range of subjects: the charm of familiar waters, the etiquette of working with new fishing guides, night fishing when the trout and the mosquitoes are both biting, and fishing snobbery, a pitfall he seems to have largely avoided. "A friend and I recently realized that making fly-fishing a way of life instead of a hobby has made us a couple of pretty one-dimensional characters. On the other hand, we agreed we're two of the happiest people we know, albeit in a simple-minded sort of way."

Gierach again demonstrates the wit, eloquence, and insight that have become his trademarks. No Shortage of Good Days is the next best thing to a day of fishing.

Critic reviews

"While Gierach offers plenty of fishing how-to advice, the book is most memorable for the wit and insight he brings to more introspective matters, such as the whys of fishing, the places the sport takes you, and the people you meet." ( Booklist Starred Review)

Outstanding

A wonderful writer for a wonderful sport, hobby, addiction. If you fly fish,
it's a must-read. If you don't fly fish, there's no hope for you anyway.

I fish, but rarely fly fish.. love Gierach’s work

Discovered John Gierach just over a month ago. Nothing better than hearing stories of his fishing adventures all over North America while refinishing the wood and canvas canoe during pandemic lockdown. Think I’ve been through 4 already. Hide in the shop. Warm coffee or cold beer depending on the time and it’s like I’ve got a buddy next to me sharing fishing stories in the most relatable way I can imagine.

Gratefully along for the trip

I feel like I just came back from a fishing roadtrip about the America’s
Especially appreciated by fishermen or those with a family history of the affliction- I’m sure any reader would enjoy this witty book with its look into a sport, lifestyle, culture and necessity

Short and sweet

This book was a little short for listening but the story is good enough and I liked the reader

A little on the hippie side for my taste.

Easy read, good stories, the are some parralels with his other book but you won't regret reading both, they arnt the same at all. this one is less hippie, but a little more than I'd like for a fishing book. Oh well, he makes great points to conservation or our natural resources which ever fisherman should get behind.
