OUT OF FIVE, THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE SO FAR!

This series just keeps getting better and better! I’ve enjoyed books One through Five immensely, but this has been my favorite so far!

There were several stories going on simultaneously, all of them engrossing, full of twists and turns. As I have with the five previous books, I finished this book all in one day. I’ve been using this series as company as I work my way through some big chores I really haven’t wanted to do and have been procrastinating in starting. Listening to these books while working makes getting through these chores so much more pleasant — I found myself almost looking forward to starting knowing I have a great book waiting to distract me!😋

This story focused quite a bit on Lucy. For some reason, not only does trouble seem to find her, but trouble from her past seems to catch up with her all the time too. Her problems affect everyone in the family (especially her sister Deputy Taylor Gray) and leaves the no-kill dog shelter the whole family runs together shorthanded.

Lucy’s troubles from her past and present are catching up to her and are putting her in a bad place mentally. Lucy is struggling with a big, deep dark depression. Lucy is irrationally angry at her sister Taylor. Lucy has tried to figure out WHY she’s so angry at Taylor and why she’s so down on herself, but she just can’t make sense of any of her feelings. She finds herself doing all she can to distance herself from Taylor just when she needs her the most.

Lucy’s one joy in life is the terrified little dog she rescues from a hunter who keeps the dog chained up in a kennel. It’s not long before Lucy realizes the little dog has rescued her too and has given her a lifeline to hang onto and use as a way to climb out of her deep depression.

The narrator in this series has been the same since book One. She drove me CRAZY in Book One because 50% of all her sentences were spoken as questions despite the fact that they were statements. Her voice would also go up right in the middle of statements for no reason.

I almost didn’t make it through the first book because of this, but I’m glad I stuck with it, because each book has been terrific. The narrator seems to get better with each book as well. The over-exaggerated fake southern accent (which I can’t STAND) is thankfully becoming less noticeable. In fairness, the narrator DOES have a lovely sounding voice. I am excited about finding out what is waiting in the next book of this series.😊

Great character development

I love these books but Lucy’s choices through the book became very tedious. It would have been more appealing if she had used a little more common sense.
